Rapper Flo Rida opens up about the success of his single "Low." He says that the track changed his life.
"Low" was released in 2007, and it ranked at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart two months later. "Low" stayed at the top of the chart for the next 10 weeks. The track also became known as the most downloaded song from the 2000s.
"That project in particular is just the dream for any artist trying to put out an album. It definitely changed my life," said Flo Rida. "['Low'] was a versatile record, so it took me to being not just the typical urban artist, but to being a pop star as well. It set the tone for me to be able to do all kinds of records like 'Right Round'-es and the 'Elevator'-es, and with different producers like Timbaland wanting to work with me."
Flo Rida acknowledged the fact that he has a lot of massive hits, but nothing really compares to "Low." He also said that "Low" is so successful that after it was first played on the radio, it just had a snowball effect everywhere else.
Initially, the rapper had his eyes set on becoming popular in the United States, but "Low" made it possible for him to also become known in other parts of the world.

Flo Rida Shares The Meaning Behind His Name
In 2016, the 38-year-old native of Carol City, Florida talked about the meaning of his stage name.
"[Florida] means diversity. It's why my music has an international appeal [and it is] a gumbo of different cultures from all over the world, so it had to rub off in my music... The Florida sound would probably be best defined as heavy bass with high energy dance records," explained Flo Rida.
