G-Eazy Looks Back On Humble Beginnings In New Trailer For Netflix’s ‘Rapture’

Netflix is following the humble beginnings and the journey to success of rapper G-Eazy in Rapture, a documentary series that will be exclusively streamed on Netflix.

The 28-year-old artist is one of the hottest names in rap and hip-hop right now. He released his third album, The Beautiful & Damned last year which has spawned chart-topping hits such as "No Limit."

The Netflix documentary will look at the hard work behind his success.

"Every show I get to play is a blessing," G-Eazy said in the trailer of the upcoming docuseries. "When I was growing up, it was me, my brother, and my mom sharing a room in my grandma's house."

G-Eazy's rise to success was astronomic. All three of his albums entered the Top 5 of Billboard 200 chart, his EP Step Brothers peaked at the 81st spot, and several of his tracks made it to the Hot 100.

His best performing work to date was "No Limit," a collaboration with A$AP Rocky and Cardi B.

"I've been doing this for over 10 years now," he continued. "Music is absolutely therapy for me."

New Era Of Rap

G-Eazy is only one of the artists whose lives and careers were documented by Rapture. The mini-series will also follow the private lives of Logic, 2 Chainz, Nas and Dave East, Rapsody, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Just Blaze, and T.I. Every episode will highlight the music and the personal struggles of each rapper.

"I look for music to be a source of nutrition," said executive producer Sacha Jenkins. "f you don't fully understand where it's all coming from, then you're not getting the full nutritional value of what hip-hop can offer. Because I know a lot about hip-hop vitamins, I knew where there were great deficiencies in how the culture was represented."

The docuseries is, in its own way, an extension of The Get Down, a musical/drama that recounted that rise of hip-hop in New York City back in the 1970s. The drama received critical and commercial acclaim, but Netflix canceled it after two seasons.

Rapture was created over the course of a year and a half. It also features interviews with music industry movers and families of the rappers on the spotlight. The docuseries already premiered at the 2018 South by Southwest music, film, art, and technology festival in Austin, Texas earlier this month.

All episodes will be available for streaming exclusively on Netflix starting on Friday, March 30.
