Music Times recently reported that one of Ted Nugent's shows at a Native American casino was cancelled due to the tribe discovering his 'racist and hate-filled remarks.' Well, now the Motor City Madman is speaking out against the tribe, denying the racist claims and calling their actions rather desperate.
The musician recently told Radio.com, "So they literally have an army assigned to destroy Ted Nugent. To call me a racist is a clear act of desperation. Because everybody knows I'm not a racist!"
On July 22, the Coeur d'Alene Casino cancelled Nugent's August 4 show based on some of his past comments, but never stated which.
"My [former] bass player Johnny Gunnel happens to be a black guy," he responded in the interview. "My [former] bass player Marco Mendoza was born in Mexico! Are you kidding me? I pay tribute to Martin Luther King in my songs. I've always said my music is a direct result of Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley, and all of the black musical heroes of my life."
The reason for the accusations, the guitarist claims, is because of his very outspoken stance on guns. Nugent is famed for being a pro-gun activist and he believes that to be the sole reason for being targeted by "the liberal Democrats and the Huffington Post and the Saul Alinsky gang."
He added, "They hate that I'm so effective."
Nugent is currently on tour to promote his newest album Shutup & Jam!, which was released on July 8.
