Bebe Rexha Responds To ‘Girls’ Backlash: ‘My Sexual Life Is Nobody’s Business’

Bebe Rexha finally responds to the backlash surrounding "Girls." She said that the theme of the song is true to who she is.

The singer also said that her sex life is nobody's business. Despite the criticism, Rexha said that the message of the song is the kind of life that she lives.

Baby Rexha Responds To Criticism Of 'Girls'

Just hours after its release, "Girls" was criticized by some fans who said that the artists featured in the track are all straight. However, Rita Ora and Cardi B already released a statement following the backlash, and both of them said that they have had experiences with women.

However, Rexha said that she did not feel comfortable talking about her sexuality just because of "Girls."

"The question of whether [the song] was true to us was completely dismissed. People automatically went for the negative instead of saying: 'Well maybe these girls do kiss girls, maybe Bebe is bi.' You don't know about my sexual orientation, so I felt disrespected," said Rexha.

She also confirmed that she kissed girls in the past, and it was not done just for fun. She also questioned why people think only lesbians could sing songs about kissing girls.

"Isn't the point of being supportive of the LGBTQ community that you can love whoever you want and everything is fluid and non-judgmental?" said Rexha.

Cardi B, Rita Ora Statements

Earlier this week, Cardi B took her thoughts to Twitter and said that it was never their intention to harm or offend anyone with their new song. She also said that she had experiences with girls in the past, and "Girls" reminded her of these moments.

Ora also said that "Girls" was not written to upset the members of the LGBTQ community. The Fifty Shades Freed star also said that she had relationships with both men and women before. Ora also apologized to anyone who disliked her song.

As of late, Charli XCX has not yet released a statement regarding "Girls."

'Girls' Defended By Journalist

Following the backlash, Billboard writer Alim Kheraj defended the song from critics.

"The song is a playful celebration of the fluidity that exists on the spectrum of human sexuality - and to discount that could amount to its own a form [of] queer erasure," wrote Kheraj.

"Girls" will be featured in Ora's upcoming album, which will be released sometime this autumn. Her second studio album was supposed to be released earlier this year.
