Karen Gibson and the Kingdom Choir made headlines for their emotional rendition of Ben E. King's hit song "Stand By Me."
The singers performed at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding.
On Saturday, May 19, Reverend Michael Bruce Curry gave an inspiring speech about love and commitment. After his talk wrapped up, Gibson led the Kingdom Choir to their memorable performance of the song.
Some of the wedding guests shown on television appeared to be in tears while listening to "Stand By Me." Prince Harry and Markle were holding hands while listening to the choir's performance. At one point, they even looked into each other's eyes.
The Kingdom Choir's recent performance is their second time to perform for the British royal family. In 2002, they performed at Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee.
Prince Harry was hands-on when in choosing the songs played at his wedding. It was also evident that majority of the performers who took the podium were of African-American descent. This was to pay tribute to Markle's heritage.
During the recessional, singers performed Etta James' song "Amen / This Little Light of Mine."
Royal Wedding Reception Songs, Performances
Different musicians played other songs during Prince Harry and Markle's wedding reception. While at Frogmore house, they invited DJ Sam Totolee to play a wide range of tracks. Reports reveal that loud music could be heard playing in Windsor until the wee hours of the night last weekend.
Totolee is the same DJ that performed at Pippa Middleton's wedding last year.
Prince Harry, Meghan Markle First Dance
Prince Harry and Markle also danced to Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" while at the reception. The song is one of Markle's favorite tracks, and she even called it her happy song during a previous interview.
Elton John was also asked to perform at the lunch reception at St. George's Hall. Before playing the piano, Prince Harry playfully asked if anyone from the crowd knows how to play the instrument. John stood up and played four songs, namely, "Circle of Life," "Your Song," "I'm Still Standing" and "Tiny Dancer."
Despite previously saying that he did not receive an invite to the royal wedding, John's attendance did not come as a shock. After all, he had a very close friendship with Princess Diana.
