Azealia Banks is determined to make Russell Crowe pay for choking her, spitting on her, and for using racial epithet at an encounter in 2016.
The rapper recently launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking to raise money so she could sue the Hollywood actor who, she claims, physically assaulted her at a party in Los Angeles.
Azealia Banks To Sue Russell Crowe
"Russell Crowe spit on me at a party in 2016 and denied it, had a group of people gaslight me causing irreparable damage to my acting career and my reputation as well as loads of emotional damage," she wrote on the fundraiser's page.
"This isn't about a big pay day for me, it's about letting the world know that black women are victims to the same sort of disgusting violence men in Hollywood deal out to women and it's important to send a message that black women also deserve justice and will get justice in these situations."
The rapper adds that the money that will come out from the fundraiser and lawsuit will go directly to charities that help clean the ocean. Banks is hoping to raise $100,000 and as of this writing, has already received over $2,000 from 128 supporters.
The Encounter
In 2016, Banks attended a Hollywood party with RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan. The 27-year-old claims that at the event, Crowe picked her up, spat on her, choked her, and called her the n-word.
According to TMZ, a confrontation did happen when the "Anna Wintour" singer started disrupting the intimate party and threatening the guests with her "erratic behavior." The publication said that Crowe grabbed her in a bear hug and called the security to remove her from the premises. However, neither RZA nor any person at the event was able to corroborate whether the 54-year-old choked and spat on Banks.
RZA, in a Facebook post, defended Crowe and called out Banks for her continuous actions. He added that he felt embarrassed because he brought her to the event as his guest. Meanwhile, the Academy Award-winning actor has vehemently denied claims that he physically assaulted and used racial slurs in an altercation with the musician.
Banks has also filed a battery report against the Hollywood actor to the authorities. However, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office dropped the case after their investigation found that physically removing Banks from the party was justified because of the repeated threat of the rapper to slit another guest's throat with a glass.
