Maine Rapper Buys Strangers Tickets To Watch Boots Riley’s Movie ‘Sorry To Bother You’

Legends support legends. Rory Ferreira of Maine has acquired and gave away over 129 tickets to a screening of Sorry to Bother You by Boots Riley.

The Biddeford-based rapper, whose stage name is Milo, bought all $7 seats at a screening in the Nickelodeon theater in Portland on Saturday, July 14. All patrons who walked into the venue hoping to see the film were told by the employees that they could watch the movie for free. About 80 people were able to catch the 4 p.m. screening without paying a dime.

Ferreira also tweeted an invitation to fans to watch the movie with him for free.

In an interview with the Portland Press Herald, the rapper revealed that he is ecstatic over the turnout. He also shared why he decided to purchase and give away tickets to the screening of the movie.

"I'm just happy to see this movie get some attention, and happy to show appreciation," he said. "I thought it was really cool that the Nickelodeon even had it. Then I wondered, will people go see this here? I don't know. There is work to do here, you know what I mean? Is Maine ready? Maybe if I do this they'll be interested. Who wants to see this thing with me?"

Boots Riley caught wind of the screening and tweeted his gratitude toward Ferreira and to everyone who caught the screening.
