Lil Devin, an up-and-coming hip-hop artist from Anderson, Indiana, was tragically killed during the New Year's Eve celebration with his family.
According to The U.S. Sun, the rapper was attacked by several masked men. Authorities were initially contacted to respond to a possible home invasion in the 1700 block of Lockerbie Court.
The 24-year-old musician, whose real name is Devin Swain, was injured when cops arrived at the scene. He was later taken to a nearby hospital for treatments, but he was pronounced dead.
The cause of death was believed to be from "injuries to his chest."
His brother, Donald Cox, spoke to Fox 59, saying the experience was "very traumatic," He never wanted it to happen to anyone ever again.
"I wouldn't want anyone to ever go through. I wouldn't wish that on anyone's family," he said.
Cox is still shocked after the incident, saying none of his family members expected something terrible to happen to him as he was a "phenomenal person."
"He was just one of those people that believed in me before I even believed in myself," he added.
His mentee, 14-year-old aspiring rapper Rashawn Samuels, also spoke to the outlet, saying he was a great role model as he always tells children to stay in school and listen to their parents.
At the time of this writing, the investigation process is still in its early stages. Authorities are hopeful of releasing more information next week.
Lil Devin's family is hoping to get the justice they deserve.
Hours before his horrifying death, the rapper took to his social media accounts to wish his fans a Happy New Year, writing, "everybody who f*** up be tryna find they waaayyy back to me, I was real actually."
Fans took to the comment section to express their sadness over Lil Devin's death.
"Truly a legend in the streets , rip brother , I love you," one fan wrote.
"Damn we was just about to work on music together. Fly high young king," another fan wrote.
