Australian Rock band Midnight Oil shares a shocking announcement to their fans about their ongoing national tour and a special benefit concert.

Composed of Peter Garrett, Rob Hirst, Jim Moginie, and Martin Rotsey, the 4-man band is currently embarking on their "Resist: The Final Tour."

While on the road, founding member and drummer Rob Hirst tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, forcing the band to make some hard decisions on the future of the band's gigs.

Midnight Oil Australian Tour Postponed

After discovering that the founding drummer Rob Hirst tested positive for the virus, the band took to social media to announce the unfortunate news.

Since Rob tested positive, the band postponed its upcoming two concerts to allow the drummer to finish his quarantine, as per the country's regulations.

This move affects The Oil's March 9 show at Rod Laver Arena with Australian pub rock band "Amyl & The Sniffers," eventually rescheduling it on March 27 this year.

The second affected gig was their March 12 gig at the Rutherglen with "Hoodoo Gurus" and "All our Exes Lives in Texas." Now rescheduled on the ANZAC Day long weekend, the gig will take place on April 24 this year.

Midnight Oil announced that tickets would automatically be valid for new dates. On the other hand, refunds will be available for those who cannot attend the new dates of the tour.

"The band would like to apologise to everyone inconvenienced by this development and thank everyone who has sent Rob' get well' messages.

Despite the positive test he actually feels a bit better today and is confident of a full and speedy recovery," the band wrote.

Midnight Oil's Other Cancelled gigs

Ahead of the most recent news, the band initially announced that they had canceled their "One For The Planet" benefit gig last weekend.

With the now confirmed positive test for COVID-19, Midnight Oil's reason for cancellation initially was that founding drummer Rob Hirst had been fighting a chest infection, although turning negative at the time.

Out of caution and responsibility, the band has canceled their commitment to the Palais Theatre's benefit show.

The band has had a successful run since their reunion in 2017 for the "Great Circle" tour.

Thought to be their thirteenth and final album, The Oil's landed their sixth No. 1 national album with "Resist," marking the Aussie's iconic band's first studio album in almost 20 years.
