After the birth of her child, Rachel Platten had an "extremely hard fight" with her mental health.
Rachel Platten Shares Health Crisis
On Instagram, the American singer honored her six-month journey about her baby with a lengthy post explaining her postpartum difficulties and how she overcame them.
"Sophie is 6 months old today. Wow." the 40-year-old singer-songwriter, who rose to popularity in 2015 with her ballad "Fight Song." wrote, captioning a photo of herself holding her daughter and smiling. It's apparent that she's happy for reaching this milestone.
"I feel so proud of myself, I got through an incredibly painful battle with my mental health, long days that felt impossible and tears that wouldn't stop coming and nights that felt never ending when my poor scared body wouldn't let me sleep," she further shared.
She revealed that she only reached this point of being better, because she was willing to help herself- using "every tool possible," even those that in the past, made her scared. She shared that she's now feeling constant joy, comfort, power, and more importantly, "real hope."
As a result of embracing her "insecurities, vulnerabilities, and all my lovely bright bits," she now has a greater sense of self-worth and authority.
Kevin Lazan and Platten had their second child, Sophie Jo, six months ago, completing their little family with a three-year-old daughter Violet Skype.
As she wraps off her message she offers some words of encouragement to people who are also dealing with mental health issues.
She said she simply wants to stretch a hand back into the darkness, adding that she's confident that people who are going through the same struggles can experience joy again.
Meanwhile, the fact that she is here is proof that it's possible. The singer shared that all have the ability to be their own heroes. She concluded the message by providing a motivational remark provided by her aunt, following the death of her partner in a marriage that lasted 50 years.
The quote reads, "Rachel, no one is going to come save you. Be your own hero. Do one brave thing today. Do one more tomorrow. Win the day. You can do this."
The singer said her aunt was teaching her how to crawl out of misery," and now she's passing it on.
Rachel Platten New Song 2022
In 2020, the singer said she lamented the fact that her song was wrung dry for political purposes and other causes and yet her own voice vanished, as she was not able to use it more, for the better, given the opportunity. Will she ever release a new single soon?
In the end, Platten's "Fight Song" was co-opted and overplayed to the point where it now carries with it a whiff of political failure.
For the first time in 2020, she told Esquire that she's able to look back on her time in the limelight and see how it relates to her goals as an artist and felt deep regret.
She regretted not using her voice more effectively during the 2016 presidential campaign."I have empathy for the girl that I was, who was scared, but now if I had been in that situation I would take the fucking mic and be like, 'I'm glad I have your ears. This is what we need to do.'"
