Avicii's frequent collaborator, Aloe Blacc, has the best way to remember him on the fourth anniversary of the DJ's death.
On Apr. 20, 2018, the world lost Avicii after the renowned DJ passed away by suicide. Four years after leaving the world for good, Blacc recorded "Wake Me Up" and sang the song in different languages.
Aloe Blacc shared the new track on his YouTube channel, saying that he recorded the song's "Universal Language Mix" using Mandarin and Spanish languages.
"Avicii's music touched the world. Writing the lyrics and recording the vocals on WAKE ME UP was a transformative experience for me. Everywhere I've been, no matter the country, music lovers and fans sing the lyrics with me in English. In honor of Avicii and with the help of Metaphysic.ai and Respeecher.com, I present a very special international version of WAKE ME UP in multiple languages," he wrote.
"Wake Me Up" secured the No. 4 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and maintained the top position on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs.
Aside from Aloe Blacc, several artists and Avicii's fans also sent heartfelt messages to the late icon.
Meanwhile, Nile Rodgers, who famously worked with the late EDM producer on "Lay Me Down," told Skavlan that he plans to release the tracks he and Avicii worked on. He reportedly wants to get the blessing of Avicii's family and estate.
What Happened to Avicii?
Amid his skyrocketing career, Avicii reportedly relied on alcohol which became all-consuming for the DJ. His alcohol issues progressed quickly, and he was hospitalized numerous times due to pancreatitis. His doctors then treated him with opioids to help alleviate the pain.
However, it sparked his new vice, causing him to rely on drugs.
From there, his father, Klas Bergling, reportedly noticed changes in Avicii's personality. Although he underwent rehabilitation, mental health issues still pestered Avicii until his retirement.
In April 2018, he cut himself using a glass shard in Oman and died by suicide.
"He was a shy person. He wasn't the one that went into a room with lots of people and started talking or holding speeches," Avicii's father told Sunday Times. Unfortunately, it reportedly became a problem.
Although it has been years since the DJ died, Bergling reportedly still struggles with the "trauma" after losing his son.
