Slipknot's Corey Taylor Describes New Album, Struggling With Paul Gray's Death & Joey Jordison's 'Heavy' Departure

Slipknot singer Corey Taylor gave fans greater insight into the state of the band and their upcoming album in an interview with Zane Lowe. Much of this focused on the absence of previous members Paul Gray and Joey Jordison, as is to be expected.

"We were just knocked senseless by the loss of Paul, and then coming to terms with the fact that we had to make a really heavy decision about parting ways with Joe," said Taylor in the interview.

Paul passed away in 2010, leaving his bandmates and fans devastated. Taylor indicated that it was a major blow to Slipknot, and it has also become a large component of their upcoming album.

"It's just been a hell of a road the past four years, and that's essentially what this album is," said Taylor. "There's a lot about Paul, there's a lot about ourselves...it's us basically reconvening and dusting it off and saying, 'Look, we can either die under the weight of this, or we can live and crush everything and come back and be the Slipknot that we know we can be.'"

There is still quite a bit of mystery behind why Jordison is no longer in the band. He has outwardly claimed that he did not quit on his own volition. Taylor has said that he can't go into detail about it, and when asked why he responded that it was "out of respect for Joe," and that it was "one of the hardest things we've ever had to do."

For now, it is clear that there must be a new Slipknot drummer, but there is no reliable information as to who it might be. There are a few unconfirmed rumors that it could be Jay Weinberg, the son of Max Weinberg, drummer for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

Taylor is currently uninterested in giving about any information about the subject, and gave following the reason in an interview with HardDrive Radio.

"We don't want people listening to our music and making up their minds about something before they even know what the music is. So trust me, you know, when the time is right, we will give you the answers that you need, and that's the way it is," he said.

While fans await the upcoming album, Slipknot has released the video for their new single, "The Negative One," as we previously reported.
