Daddy Yankee's Manager Raphy Pina Jailed Over Illegal Possession of Firearms

With the one-count charge, a Puerto Rico federal judge sentenced the Pina Records founder five months after the conviction.

Also, Judge Francisco Besosa, the judge who sentenced him, denied his pending bail appeal. He said that Pina must surrender voluntarily today, May 24, 2022, before 3:00 p.m. ET to the United States Marshalls.

Raphy Pina is sentenced to three years and five months in prison, equivalent to 41 months in prison. He is also required to pay $150,000 as a sanction for his illegal possession of firearms conviction.

At the end of his term, he will be placed under supervised release for three years.

The prosecution initially demanded a "tougher-than-usual prison sentence of 46 to 50 months (3 to 4 years) in prison - arguing that his prior 2016 felony conviction should be included, as well as the imminent "carnage" that his automatic weapons might cause.

The music executive's legal team countered and filed a sentencing memorandum on May 20, 2022 - asking for a softer sentence - probation only and no prison time.

"Neither request is accepted by the court. Mr. Pina failed to abide by the law, and his disregard for the law is not acceptable," he said.

Raphy Pina Indictment, Initial Convictions

Indicted last August 2020, Pina was accussed of possessing two handguns and hundred rounds of ammunition. His 2016 conviction on money laundering charges and federal fraud bars him from doing this act - which he was caught eventually. (via Billboard)

One Glock pistol, Model 19, 9mm caliber, modified to automatic, one Smith & Wesson, Model SD40, .40 caliber, and 526 total rounds of live ammunition for handguns and rifles and shotguns have been seized on the Reggaeton producer, legal documents reveal.

As of this writing, Pina has not appealed for a conviction yet. Although, his legal team hinted in an initial filing that they would be pushing to overturn the said conviction. More information about the legal proceedings shall be available within the next 14 days.
