Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, many musicians have had minimal space at home to record their songs. However, some of them managed to adjust to the situation and even recorded an entire album within the four corners of their room. Def Leppard can relate as they did the exact same thing.
In an interview with Loudwire Nights, guitarist Phil Collen thinks recording an album remotely is one of the best things that ever happened to their band.
The musician said recording remotely helped them because it gained the band more creative control over the writing and recording process.
In addition, they don't have people waiting for each other in a studio.
"When we did it this way, it was like, everyone's doing their own part, everyone's doing their best," he added.
Collen explained that each member could tune their guitars and sing in tune. Once they're done recording, they send the best content to their producer in Dublin, Ronan McHugh.
Elsewhere in the interview, the guitarist said working remotely also saved the band "so much energy" as they have to be mindful of their bodies at this stage in their career.
Since they conserved their energies, they gained more inspiration.
For their future albums, Collen is confident that the band will continue recording remotely because they're happy with the process, and he has more time to spend with his family because his work only requires him to record his guitar parts on the computer.
Speaking about his usual home setup, the guitarist said he'd get back to his computer then he would check something in the inbox from Joe Eliott.
They would work on a song while he was staying in California, adding: "before we knew it we had this amazing kind of thing going, it was just inspired all the way along."
Def Leppard's upcoming album, "Diamond Star Halos," will be released this Friday, May 27.
The band will also embark on a stadium tour starting this June 16 at the Suntrust Park in Atlanta, Georgia, before visiting cities like Washington DC, Flushing, Orlando, Miami, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Jacksonville, St. Louis, Pennsylvania, Cleveland, and many more.
The highly-anticipated tour will wrap up at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 9.
