"Ozzy Osbourne is dead" became a hot topic after buzzes about the rocker's alleged passing surfaced.
Osbourne faced the life-altering surgery on Monday, wherein his doctors realigned the pins in his neck and back following his fall in 2019. Fans were left worried, especially since the major operation would require a lengthy amount of recovery due to his age.
The nature of the surgery also sparked more concerns.
Although both he and his wife, Sharon Osbourne, confirmed the successful procedure, the Black Sabbath rocker became the subject of several death hoaxes that "killed him."
Ozzy Osbourne Is Dead? It Is Fake News!
MediaMass shared a post on the "R.I.P. Ozzy Osbourne" Facebook page shared on Tuesday - a day after his surgery. Its About page also made the account more believable.
"At about 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday (June 14, 2022), our beloved singer Ozzy Osbourne passed away. Ozzy Osbourne was born on December 3, 1948 in Birmingham. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page," the post reads.
Fans immediately shared their message of condolences without knowing that the report was actually a death hoax.
Fortunately, his representatives clarified the reports a day later, saying that the 73-year-old is still alive and well.
It was not the first time Osbourne's name got involved in a fake death news report, though.
In 2020, MetalCastle noted that Osbourne received a similar news after his major operation that year. The singer himself said that he would not be surprised if he suddenly saw any news that read, "Ozzy Osbourne has been found dead in his hotel room."
Fans Furious Over Ozzy Osbourne's Death News
After the death hoax went viral, The Celebrity Post conducted a poll in which the majority of the voters said that "Ozzy Osbourne is dead" rumors are not funny anymore.
As of press time, 1834 internet users already participated in the poll. The 82 percent said that the recent death rumors are already boring, while the 18 percent (333 respondents) thought those are still funny.
Amid the buzzes, Osbourne himself assured his fans that he is doing well after the surgery.
"I am now home from the hospital recuperating comfortably. I am definitely feeling the love and support from all my fans and send everyone a big thank you for their thoughts, prayers and well wishes during my recovery," he wrote on Twitter.
