Whenever a big star is set to perform at a music festival or an event, people should anticipate a large number of concertgoers, meaning security and safety should also be the number one priority. Recently, before Nicki Minaj's set at a gig, fans experienced chaos at the venue's entrance.
According to Yahoo! Authorities intervened to help security personnel manage fans at this year's Wireless Festival.
Police officers were sent around the area of Finsbury Park in London at 3 p.m. as concertgoers flocked and some people attempted to make their way past long lines.
In addition to the surprising amount of attendees, the weather also became a big issue as the temperature at the venue rose to almost 30 degrees Celcius.
Many fans took to social media to express their thoughts about the situation.
"I'm genuinely starting to get worried for nicki & people's safety... more people keep pilling up and it's very hot out there wireless festival should've never added more tickets after it sold out twice," one wrote.
Metro reported that people are "being trampled and forced to climb tall gates" because the event had the "smallest opening at the singular entrance."
Before police officers arrived, fans claimed there was no regulated flow of pedestrian traffic.
Prior to the event, organizers warned fans about fake tickets and scammers as they had already announced that the concert was sold out.
A Metropolitan Police issued a statement about the incident, saying police officers helped manage the crowd to ensure safety.
"We continue to work closely with the event organiser and other partners to prevent further disruption and we thank people attending for their patience, particularly in the hot weather," they added.
Nicki Minaj Fans Left Disappointed, Fuming
Just when Nicki Minaj started performing in front of thousands of people, especially to those who struggled to get into the concert grounds, many fans took online to express their disappointment.
The outlet reported that the "Dear Old Nicki" hitmaker was 30 minutes late and only performed 40 minutes out of her 80-minute set.
In addition, the highly-anticipated performance had many technical difficulties.
"Nicki needs to stop this thing of being late. She wants her time to be respected right? She needs to reciprocate that," one wrote.
As of this writing, the queen of rap has not publicly apologized for what happened.
