David Paiche alarmed fans when he suddenly stopped joining Toto on their tour in 2019, but he made his highly-anticipated a few months back. Today, he's ready to discuss the reason why he decided to temporarily halt his performances; was it health related?
In an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, the musician said he's feeling better today as his health has been "very good at this point" since he returned to touring.
He added that in 2019, the band embarked on a three-month tour into some of the coldest countries in the world like Germany, Sweden, Norway, and the likes.
While on the road, the weather was a "freezing winter." The low temperature led people on their tour to suffer from "some kind of flu" and his health started to "dwindle."
"When you get older, traveling on a bus for two months at a time, it's hard to do. I had some other issues that I don't want to go into, but I just had to take some time off," he explained.
He finally decided to stop performing and "recuperate" from the road.
His final performance with Toto was on October 20, 2019, at the end of the band's "40 Trips Around the Sun" tour.
Paich then returned to join the group to play a few songs during their SIR Studios performance in 2020.
Early this year, the musician is ready to go back on the road full time after joining the band at their show in Sacramento in April.
David Paich's Solo Career
Even though Paich isn't a part of Toto anymore, the outlet noted that he still works for the band as a musical director and has been appearing on a few shows.
Speaking about his new album, the singer said he feels great and his excitement is similar to what he felt when the group released their first record.
The musician added that he felt that he accomplished something during the COVID-19 pandemic and it's been rewarding for him after working with his friends in the studio.
Regarding the sound of his record, Paich said he reviewed a few old and little pieces and he incorporated them into some of his songs.
His debut album "Forgotten Toys" is currently available for purchase and streaming on various music platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
