YUNGBLUD may be new to the music industry, but his idols and musical references date way back to the 20th century as he recently revealed that one of his idols is a rock & roll legend; who could this be?
Speaking to Billboard to promote his latest self-titled album, the "I Think I'm OKAY" hitmaker said The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger is his biggest musical influence as he considers him as his "everything."
The reason why he looks up to him so much is because of his work as a musician, an activist, a rockstar, and a sex icon.
The two have previously met and YUNGBLUD couldn't forget what he did during their first meeting, saying "I did a shot of whiskey, walked in - alright Mick how are you? In my head, I was like 'What the f***?'"
Jagger is familiar with the young pop-punk rocker as Uproxx reported that he previously gave him a shoutout during an interview with P4, a Swedish radio station.
YUNGBLUD Says Internet Trolls Are the Reason Why Mac Miller Died
The recent revelation about YUNGBLUD's encounter with Jagger comes after an interview with VICE where the singer opened up about internet trolls and haters.
Since he debuted a few years back, the musician has been a target of negative comments as he continues to express himself through style and music.
Aside from the way he dressed at concerts and music videos, YUNGBLUD said people also accused him of being an "industry plant" and "queerbaiter."
Even though he witnessed the grueling judgment that the internet has thrown at him, the singer remained authentic to himself.
He noted that no one can define him into one category because he keeps on "obliterating conformity and obliterating boxing yourself in."
Elsewhere in the interview, the "acting like that" said internet users could be so mean to younger artists, especially him, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, and many more.
In addition, he also blamed Mac Miller's death to online haters who kept on sharing negative comments about him.
Regarding his message to people who kept on criticizing him, YUNGBLUD said people should consider what other humans are personally going through regardless of their popularity status in the industry.
"We have to be kinder to each other. We have to be kinder in the world," he said.
