U2 fans who have been anticipating the release of "Songs of Ascent' might have to wait a little bit longer because Bono just dropped a bombshell-they're going to put out an AC/DC-inspired album.
In his interview with The New York Times, the 62-year-old revealed that the band wants to release "a noisy, uncompromising, unreasonable guitar album."
He also shared that "Songs Of Ascent" is actually nearly completed. They have been reportedly teasing the album to fans since 2009, but for some reason have been holding back on its release.
Perhaps a reason behind the prolonged release was that U2 attended a songwriting school.
"With the band, I was like, this is not what we do, and we can only do that experimental stuff if we have the songwriting chops. So we went to songwriting school, and we're back and we're good!" He shared.
"Over those two albums, 'Songs Of Innocence and Experience', our songwriting returned. Now we need to put the firepower of rock 'n' roll back."

The Inspiration
As of this writing, neither Bono nor the rest of the U2 members have any material for their rock album, however, one thing is for certain-they want it heavy on the rock 'n' roll concept and theme.
"I don't know who is going to make our fuck-off rock 'n' roll album. You almost want an AC/DC, you want Mutt Lange. The approach. The discipline. The songwriting discipline. That's what we want."
He admitted that they struggled to get their songs and previous two albums, "Songs Of Innocence" and "Songs Of Experience," to enter the charts. However, with the planned rock album, they are saying good-bye to the pop music charts.
"I wished to connect with the pop charts over the last two albums and failed. But the songwriting got really good," he said. "Songs of Experience" is great songwriting even if you don't like the sound of it."
"So right now I want to write the most unforgiving, obnoxious, defiant, f**k-off-to-the-pop-charts rock 'n' roll song that we've ever made," he continued.
U2 was formed in Dublin in 1976. The members include Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.; and since they have been around for quite some time now, they have been experimenting with their music.
They released their debut album, "Boy," in 1980. They have released several albums since then, including the infamous "Songs Of Innocence," which was downloaded into everyone's Apple devices in 2014, and its sister album, "Songs Of Experience," released in 2017.
