Bastille may be best known for reaching the heights of "Pompeii," but now the English indie rock band has to deliver a bit of "Bad News..." but it's actually good news because it's a brand new song. Today (Aug. 15) Dan Smith and co. released a sizzling new R&B influenced track online, entitled "Bad News."
"Bad News" begins with a strong note: an extended electronic twitch, not unlike tuning some sort of intergalactic radio. Soon, though, Smith's high octave croon comes in to wrap it all together, setting the vibes for the slow burning, genre-bending track.
Though the heavy drums clearly come from a hip-hop influence, driving the song forward, the musicality above it is pure EDM. Smith's vocals are distorted through the microphone, adding in some creepy, winding vibes and background singers to enhance the overall sound.
This is a far cry from the band's biggest hit, which included tribal chants and an easy, singalong melody. But, it's a welcome change.
