Mark Stewart, popularly known for being the frontman of the Bristol-founded funk band the Pop Group, has died at the age of 62; what was his cause of death?
According to The Guardian, the tragic news was confirmed by his record label Mute. The company issued a statement amid the musician's passing, saying the singer was an "original, fearless, sensitive, artistic, and funny man."
The label added that the world will never be the same without the vocalist as he had a great impact on his friends and fans.
As of this writing, his cause of death remains a mystery as his family has yet to share an official statement about the matter.
Who Was Mark Stewart?
Born on August 10, 1960, the musician spent most of his life in Bristol, England. At the age of 17, he founded the Pop Group with his friends at the youth club: Simon Underwood and John Waddington. Additional members like Bruce Smith and Gareth Sager later joined them.
Aside from their music, the Pop Group's name also stood out as it sounds ironic. Despite the name, their genre mainly revolved around post-punk, industrial, dub, and avant-punk.

Stewart previously revealed in an interview that it was also inspired by the Clash and the band had embraced the "iconoclasm of the punk movement."
He further explained that the name sounds like there's the arrogance of power and what they got from punk "was the power of arrogance."
Throughout their careers, they became popularly known for being a political band as their songs were considered to be a highly musical form of ranted speech, which made them known among other groups at the time.

Mark Stewart's Death Mourned by Fans
After the news of his death made rounds online, many fans immediately paid tribute to Stewart on social media.
"RIP Mark Stewart. Terribly sad news - a true pioneer and inspiration gone way too soon. Thinking of his family and friends," one wrote.
"Bristol would be a very different place artistically and politically if it not been for Marks influence on all of us My deepest condolences go to his family and friends. X," another one wrote.
