When Ed Sheeran was hit yet again with a copyright infringement lawsuit, he had enough.

The British singer became well known for making hit after hit with his own pen and guitar, which is probably why the latest case against his song "Thinking Out Loud" became the last straw.

According to BBC, however, Sheeran triumphed in the copyright infringement against him that alleges he copied Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" case.

The relief was clear on the singer's face as he hugged his wife and team, then left the courtroom "obviously very happy" with the court and jury's decision.

Standing Up

A few days before the verdict came in, Sheeran famously declared that he would quit music altogether if he lost the case.

"If that happens, I'm done," Sheeran said. "I'm stopping... I find it really insulting to work my whole life as a singer-songwriter and diminish it."

Afterward, he boasted his accomplishment by joking, "It looks like I'm not going to have to retire from my day job after all."

"But at the same time I am absolutely frustrated that baseless claims like this are allowed to go to court at all," he then continued.

"If the jury had decided this matter the other way we might as well say goodbye to the creative freedom of songwriters."

He also declared another thing: "I am not and will never allow myself to be a piggy bank for anyone to shake."

Not His First Rodeo

This was not the first time Sheeran has been hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit. In fact, it is his third time defending himself and his music-and he won all three times.

Back in 2017, Sheeran faced his first copyright infringement lawsuit when a pair of songwriters accused him of copying their song "Amazing," which was recorded by Matt Cardle.

In another instance, the songwriters who wrote TLC's "No Scrubs" also came for the singer, saying that "Shape of You" sounded suspiciously a lot like the beloved song.

During the lawsuit, one of the plaintiff's lawyers even accused Sheeran point blank: "Mr. Sheeran is undoubtedly very talented, he is a genius. But he is also a magpie. He borrows ideas and throws them into his songs, sometimes he will acknowledge it but sometimes he won't."

It is no wonder that the singer has had enough of going through court proceedings, trials, and the works over and over again.

He has also, on multiple occasions, opened up about his mental health which is not doing too great following the death of his best friend several years back.
