Ricky Martin and Jwan have decided to divorce, according to a statement made public on Thursday.
Despite the end of their six-year marriage, both parents remain devoted to raising their children together.
According to a statement posted on the "La Vida Loca" hitmaker's Instagram page, "For some time, we have considered transforming our relationship, and it is after careful consideration that we have decided to end our marriage with love, respect, and dignity for our children - preserving and honoring what we have experienced as a couple all of these wonderful years."
They went on to say, "Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on our genuine friendship as we continue the joint upbringing of our children."
Ricky, who is 51, and Jwan, 38, have two young children - Lucia, 4, and Renn, 3 - together. In addition to them, Martin is also a single parent to 14-year-old twin sons Matteo and Valentino.
According to People magazine's report that broke the news of their divorce, the singer will continue raising them by himself.
Ricky Martin, Jwan Yosef Relationship Timeline
In 2010, after much speculation, singer and actor Ricky Martin announced publicly that he was gay in an open letter on his website.
It was in 2017 that Jwan Yosef, a Swedish-Syrian conceptual artist, and the Grammy award-winning singer tied the knot at their private ceremony.
The two first crossed paths on Instagram back in 2015, eventually meeting in person for the first time six months later in London.
Their relationship became more public at the 2016 amFAR Inspiration Gala where they made their red carpet debut together, and it was there that they announced their engagement to those around them.
When asked about his desire for children and family during an August 2020 interview with Out, Ricky revealed that the influence of his grandmother, who had 14 siblings, played a key role.
"I would love to have many grandkids in the future and have every Sunday filled with family but, you know, we have to see what happens."
He then went on to explain why he chose surrogacy as an alternative: "Adoption is a wonderful option yet sadly it's not always accessible to gay men depending on the country they reside."
