Kris Wu Jail Time Appealed: Former EXO-Star Tries To Overturn 13-Year Conviction

Former EXO-star Kris Wu was reportedly working under the radar to appeal his rape and group sex convictions on a Beijing court to overturn his 13-year jail time.

Notably, Wu was charged by a court in November 2022 with the following crimes, shocking the former KPOP star's fans worldwide.

Kris Wu Jail Time Appealed?

According to a recent Variety report, Kris Wu, formally known as Wu Yi Fan, is making an appeal to a Beijing court last Tuesday, Jul. 25, 2023.

His case was being heard at the Beijing No. 3 Intermediate People's Court. Reportedly, the hearing was done away from media attention and was only conducted in one day.

Apparently, local media reported that the move to conduct the hearing away from the media was done in order to protect the privacy of the victims. Already a Canadian native, the Chinese court informed the Canadian Embassy that the convicted's rights were being protected.

Kris Wu's jail time appeal result will be revealed at an unspecified time in the future, Variety reported.

Kris Wu's jail time was initially set to 13 years, which meant that if the appeal would be denied, he would stay in China until 2035 before getting deported to Canada. He would be 45 years old by then.

18-year-old Du Meizhou accused Wu of raping her when she was still 17 years old. Wu received the same accusations from two other underaged women. They were all drunk when the abuse happened.

Reportedly, Chinese police initially sided with Wu, but later on, he was arrested after further investigation.

Five more women came forward, accusing him of forced sex in 2020 and 2018 while all drunk. (via Variety)

Aside from rape and group sex charges, Kris Wu also faced tax evasion cases from The Beijing Municipal Tax Service of the State Taxation Administration. Kris Wu's tax charges amounted to $83 million.

Notably, Kris Wu's career fumbled after these accusations. He saw a decline in following from his fans all over the world.

In 2014, Wu departed EXO before launching a scathing lawsuit against SM Entertainment. He wanted to terminate his exclusive contract with the agency as he claimed to have his opinions "never respected' and dismissed his health conditions.
