Canadian-Chinese rapper Kris Wu's appeal to have his 13-year jail sentence and deportation has been rejected.

The former EXO member has been convicted and sentenced for 13 years in jail after raping several young women in China.

Kris Wu Appeal Denied

According to a Reuters report, Kris Wu's appeal to have his 13-year sentence overturned has been rejected.

"Wu violated the will of women and took advantage of the drunkenness of multiple victims to have sexual relations with them. His behaviour constituted the crime of rape," a statement from the Chinese court said.

The outlet also reported that the Beijing No. 3 Intermediate People's Court that Wu had "gathered a crowd to engage in lewd activities and was the ringleader, therefore his behaviour constituted the crime of group licentiousness."

Notably, Wu's sentence was delivered last November 2024, totaling 13 years. Specifically, he would be in jail for 11 and a half years for rape and another 22 months for "group licentiousness." Afterward, he will be deported from China to Canada.

He was also fined $64 million dollars for tax evasion.

Last July 2023, Wu filed for an appeal in secret - away from media attention. Local media said that the move was done to protect the privacy of his victims while also protecting Wu's rights as a Canadian citizen. (via Variety)

Kris Wu will be jailed in China until 2035 before getting deported to Canada. He would be 45 years old by that time.

Meanwhile, Global Affairs Canada issued a statement commenting on Wu's appeal rejection.

"The Government of Canada is aware that a final decision was rendered in the case," they said in a statement.

What Was Kris Wu Convicted and Sentenced For?

An 18-year-old Du Meizhu alleged in 2021 that she was "date-raped" by Wu when she was 17 and was drunk at the time. She also accused the former EXO star of doing the same thing to other women who were also minors. (via Variety)

He was also accused of "forced sex" in 2020 and 2018 - all of those crimes were committed when the victims were intoxicated.

Several brands have severed their ties with Wu following the allegations at the time - brands like Louis Vuitton, Bulgari, Porsche, and Lancome.

In 2014, Wu departed EXO before launching a scathing lawsuit against SM Entertainment. He wanted to terminate his exclusive contract with the agency as he claimed to have his opinions "never respected' and dismissed his health conditions.
