A Mexican rapper named Juan Carlos Sauceda, popularly known for his stage name Lefty SM, has passed away at the age of 31 after he was shot dead in Mexico.

According to Billboard, the musician's death was confirmed by his record label, Alzada Records.

In a statement posted on the music company's official Instagram account, they wrote, translated to English, "Dear Alzada friends and family, with profound sadness we're informing you about the death of our brother, Lefty SM, Juan Carlos Sauceda."

They also noted that their love and prayers are with the rapper's wife Maria Isabel and their two children.

"To infinity in our memory and our heart. Rest in peace @leftysm_," they wrote in the caption.

What Happened to Lefty SM?

As of this writing, details about his death are yet to be publicized, but it was confirmed that he was shot around the area of La Cima in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico.

He reportedly sustained two gunshot wounds and he was later taken to a hospital. Unfortunately, Lefty SM didn't survive and was declared dead.

After the news about his death circulated online, fans and other artists paid tribute to him and shared their kind words about the rapper and his family.

"Much strength to the whole family. We have only good words for you. A huge hug," a musician named Dante wrote.

"We're going to miss you my Lefty, a person with a big heart and genuine spirit. Big hug to all the family," another one wrote.

Lefty SM Just Performed at a Show Days Before Death

Per the outlet, Lefty SM had just performed days before his death at the Teatro Metropolitan in Mexico City.

At the time, he was a special guest of his good friend and fellow musician, MC Davo, who was one of the first few people who spoke out about his death.

He took to social media during the morning when the news came out to share an emotional video where he could be seen crying, saying he couldn't believe what happened.

In a separate post, he shared a photo of them together. In the caption, he wrote, "Just a few hours ago we were enjoying life. May God have you in his glory."

Lefty SM had been posting music on the YouTube channel since 2017. He was a small-time musician at first, but his songs immediately became popular around Mexican urban scene.

As of this writing, his YouTube channel has 2.7 million subscribers.
