Doja Cat has been receiving a huge amount of backlash recently after she lashed out at her fans, the Kittenz. Since then, social media has been quite adamant about her following her behavior.

Surprisingly, despite the public pronouncements of her fanbase, Doja Cat is still making strides, especially with her new song, "Paint The Town Red."

Doja Cat 'Paint The Town Red' First #1 Rap Song of 2023?

According to Chart Data and other insider projections, this week's Billboard Hot 100 charts will be led by the sleeper hit that is "Paint The Town Red."

Initially debuting at No. 15 on the Hot 100 chart, the record vaulted to No. 5, on last week's charts, and is racing to be the first No. 1 rap song of 2023.

"Paint The Town Red" officially becomes the second lead single of Doja Cat for her upcoming album, "Scarlet."

Doja Cat seemed to drift apart from the feminine energy that her first three albums have given off and is channeling her inner demons for her upcoming record.

From having a shaved head to wearing outlandish demonic outfits, Doja Cat turned a complete 360 degrees with her persona.

"Paint The Town Red" has been powered by increased streaming activity as it continues to become a trending song on TikTok. Surprisingly, Doja Cat's fanbase Kittenz, after her lashing out in the past few months, did not launch a publicly coordinated effort to push the record to No. 1, as it seemed to be an organic increase.

According to Billboard, the charts for this week won't be released until Tuesday, Sep. 5, 2023, in observance of Labor Day.

Nicki Minaj 'Super Freaky Girl' The Last Rap Song At #1

Should the projections be correct, Doja Cat's "Paint The Town Red" would be the first rap song of 2023. The last rap song to hit No. 1 was Nicki Minaj's banger hit "Super Freaky Girl," which was released in August 2022. (via Chart Data)

Since then, no rap song from either female or male rappers has achieved a No. 1 placement on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, cementing Minaj's chart domination and impact.

However, "Paint The Town Red's" race to No. 1 doesn't come with a challenge; as Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgrave's "I Remember Everything" is also racing for the said spot. Should they manage to pull a clincher and eventually top the charts, it would be both artists' first No. 1 hits. (via Chart Data)
