Sufjan Stevens revealed heartbreaking news ahead of the release of his new album.
The Oscar-nominated U.S. indie-folk artist scheduled his album, "Javelin," for release on October 6, but he shared a heartbreaking news as he announced that he would not be able to promote the album through potential appearances and interviews because of his current bout.
What Happened to Sufjan Stevens?
On Instagram, Stevens confirmed he was in the hospital after receiving his autoimmune disorder Guillian-Barre Syndrome diagnosis.
According to the singer, he started experiencing symptoms in August, including his inability to walk, his body parts feeling numb and having a tingling sensation.
"My brother drove me to the ER and after a series of tests-MRIs, EMGs, cat scans, X-rays, spinal taps (!), echo-cardiograms, etc.-the neurologists diagnosed me with an auto immune disorder called Guillian-Barre Syndrome," he said.
The 48-year-old "Should Have Known Better" singer underwent a two-week treatment in the hospital and received immuno-hemoglobin infusions for five days while praying hard that the disease would not spread to his internal organs, including his brain, heart and lungs.
Fortunately, his doctors stabilized his condition and helped him survive the health ordeal.
After his hospitalization, Stevens was transferred to an acute rehabilitation facility where he began his physical and occupational therapy to relearn how to walk again and recover from it completely.
His upcoming album follows his 2020 "The Ascension." He soon dropped several hit tracks like "So You Are Tired" and "Will Anybody Ever Love Me?" before sharing the ballet soundtrack "Reflection."
