Late last year, Shakira had to start her life all over after leaving her ex Gerard Pique when she found out that he had cheated on her for a much younger woman.

The "Waka Waka" singer expressed her disappointment and heartbreak with the entire situation, which still heavily affects her to this day.

"My priority was my home, my family. I believed in 'till death do us part.' I believed that dream, and I had that dream for myself, for my children," Shakira said in an interview.

The singer is a romantic, after all, she witnessed her parents' love for each other, and it encouraged her to dream big in finding love.

"They love each other like the first day, with a love that's unique and unrepeatable," she continued. "So I know it's possible."

"And it has always been my example. It's what I wanted for myself and my children, but it didn't happen."

Gerard Pique Cheated on Shakira

Shakira and Pique have been together for over a decade. They share two sons: Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8, who they are now co-parenting after a very lengthy and arduous custody battle.

"Well, the thing is, I was dedicated to him. To the family, to him," Shakira said, noting that she had sacrificed her career in the process of prioritizing her family.

"It was very difficult for me to attend to my professional career while in Barcelona," she added. "It was complicated logistically to get a collaborator there. I had to wait for agendas to coincide or for someone to decide to come. I couldn't leave my children and just go somewhere to make music outside my house. It was hard to maintain the rhythm."

Shakira Reclaims Latin Music Crown

After her separation from Pique, though, Shakira returned to the music scene with banger after banger. Her song, "Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53," featuring Bizarrap was a chart-topping success as well.

The "She Wolf" singer is now ready to put her music career back on track, now that she has more time for herself and sorted out the custody setup with her ex.

"That's why I think [my next tour] will be the tour of a lifetime because I have so many songs," Shakira teased.

According to reports, the singer is planning to go to several countries across Latin America, North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Middle East.
