Bret Michaels opened up about the effects of losing his friend, Jimmy Buffett, who died after suffering from a rare skin cancer.

Bret Michaels Shares Heartfelt Message After Jimmy Buffett's Death
After Buffett's death, Michaels faced a recent cancer scare that pushed him to undergo a procedure that "may have saved his life."
In a new Instagram post, he revealed that he had an operation on his right hip as he thought it was time to recheck the "something" he thought "was nothing."
"Turns out, it was something," he revealed. "But, thanks to an incredible discovery and biopsy by my doctor Darren West and a quick reaction for this procedure on Friday just before the Texas show, I'm here to say that there's not enough words of gratitude for all that doctors do for so many of us which not only may have saved my life but surely extended it."
The Poison singer noted that, like Buffett, he also loves the outdoors and the sun. Although he had already undergone a procedure, he clarified that he was not completely out of the woods yet.
He then told his friends, who also love being outdoors, to have themselves checked.

Bret Michaels Diagnosed With Skin Cancer
Even before Buffett's death, Michaels already suffered a health scare and had skin cancer removed from his body.
In 2020, he had a similar procedure after having a separate surgery to fix a torn rotator cuff.
"I'm in the hands of incredible specialists who are both positive for great outcomes," he wrote on his website. "It may slow me down a bit at the beginning of the year, but if God [is] willing, I promise this year will be awesome. Just a few less solo shows and special events until I get this all squared up."
Michaels also suffered from a minor stroke and brain hemorrhage in 2010 and received treatment for a hole in his heart the following year. He has also been managing his type 1 diabetes since he was a child.
