Suzanne Somers, a renowned and award-winning actress who also showed her talent in singing throughout her career, has died at the age of 76, her publicist confirmed.
Somers' longtime publicist R. Couri Hay, confirmed in a statement that the famed singer-actress passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, October 15, a day before what would have been her 77th birthday.
Suzanne Somers' Cause of Death
In the same statement cited by ABC News, Hay noted that Somers survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years before she succumbed to the disease after it recurred this year.
"Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family," the representative added. "Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly."
Somers' family will reportedly hold a private burial this week, while a memorial will be scheduled at a later date.
Sources told a news outlet that prior to her death, she and her family had been seeking treatment for her breast cancer but failed, so she was ultimately brought back home.
Suzanne Somers Had a Health Scare Before Her Passing
The "You Made Me Love You" singer revealed to Page Six that she called 911 after her husband started to feel alarmed by her fluctuating blood pressure. At that time, she admitted to feeling distressed because the readings they got were beyond the normal ranges.
"Alan got a reading on me he didn't like, but he took it again 8 or 10 more times to be sure," Somers said. "For the first time ever, we called 911."
An ambulance and firetruck responded to their home to check what was wrong. They found out that Somers was fine and that a simple machine error caused the issue.
The health scare came weeks after she and her husband confirmed that her breast cancer recurred after initially surviving it. She first received a stage 2 breast cancer diagnosis in 2000 during a routine mammogram before suffering from it again over two decades later.
Somers underwent a lumpectomy and radiation therapy as part of the treatment until it "popped up again."
