Danny Elfman broke his silence after a woman filed a sexual abuse lawsuit against him.
In October, a Jane Doe filed a lawsuit accusing Elfman of grooming and assaulting her from 1997 to 2002 when she was a student at the New York Film Academy. The woman also named Elfman's company, Musica de la Muerta, in the document for different allegations.
Aside from sexual abuse, she also noted gender violence, negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress in the document.
Danny Elfman Denies Accusations
On Monday, November 6, Elfman responded to the lawsuit by filing a document in Los Angeles. He said that the allegations were false, accusing the Jane Doe of filing the case to embarrass him and extort settlement money.
According to the composer, he never committed sexual abuse. He insisted that he never inappropriately touched the woman and made inappropriate advances.
"Plaintiff's Complaint specifically states that she was an adult at the time of the alleged conduct," the filing continued. "Nor does the Complaint allege a single instance of Mr. Elfman touching Plaintiff in an unlawful or inappropriate manner, because he never did so."
The 70-year-old musician and his team added that if the claims were true, the complaint "would not constitute a sexual assault."
The woman in question said Elfman removed all of his clothing before exposing his genitals to her. She added that the exposure happened every time they would see each other, alleging that he slept naked next to her while she was fully clothed.
Their friendship reportedly ended in 2002 when Elfman allegedly confessed to her that he would do something to himself every time he slept next to her.
"The man I thought was my friend and mentor had been using me for years. I thought I had been a person to him; instead, I was pure 'object,'" the alleged victim said in a statement.
Not the First Allegation
Before Jane Doe came forward, composer Nomi Abadi also dropped similar allegations in 2017. According to Rolling Stone, both parties settled the case with a $830,000 settlement and a non-disclosure agreement.
The recent accuser also noted in her statement that she experienced what Abadi went through, writing, "Everything she said rang true. Her experiences with Danny mirrored so much of what I had experienced with him. I couldn't leave her on her own."
