Fetch is finally happening again in theatres next year as the anticipation for "Mean Girls the Musical" comes to a fever pitch with the trailer being released.

However, not all people were thrilled online with the release of the new movie adaptation of the Broadway musical. Some are particularly enraged as to why the actual movie seemed to have forgotten that it was a movie musical because it did not feature any music from the original soundtrack.

'Mean Girls the Musical' Trailer Unpacked

In the 2-minute 21-second trailer of "Mean Girls the Musical," fans were now able to see all the characters in the upcoming movie musical.

Angourie Rice's meek Cady Heron, Jaquel Spivey and Aul'i Caravalho's Damian and Janis, Avantika's Karen, Bebe Wood's Gretchen, and finally Reneé Rapp's sensational Regina George's characters can now be seen in full glory.

Tina Fey also reprised her role as Mrs. Norbury while Tim Meadows returned as Principal Duvall. Christopher Briney plays Aaron Samuels, Jenna Fischer as Ms. Heron, Busy Philipps as Mrs. George, Connor Ratliff as Mr. Rapp, and Jon Hamm as Coach Carr. Ashley Park, the original Gretchen Weiners from "Mean Girls the Musical" on Broadway, is added to the cast as an unnamed French teacher.

The "Mean Girls the Musical" trailer also gave a sneak peek of the iconic burn book scene, the gym scene afterward, and the Christmas talent show. While the trailer also gave glimpses of the musical numbers, fans seemed to be confused as to why they heard nothing of the actual music from the musical adaptation.

No 'Mean Girls The Musical' Music In The Trailer?

Fans have noticed that the trailer didn't feature any music from the actual musical, as opposed to the movie musical adaptation.

Instead, fans were shocked to hear Olivia Rodrigo's "Get Him Back" in the trailer. Not that it wasn't a good fit, it's just that fans expect to hear the Tony-nominated music from the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical on the trailer instead of a Billboard Hot 100 hit.

"wait wait hold on....you release a trailer for the film of the stage adaptation of Mean Girls but *reads notes* use non musical songs as the music and don't include singing clips of the songs," a user wrote on Twitter/X.

"I'm surprised the trailer doesn't feature any aspect of this being a musical, since u know, that's the main difference in this version," one of the top comments on Paramount's Youtube account reads.

Broadway's "Mean Girls the Musical" received critical acclaim and 12 Tony Nominations, including Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Musical.

"Saturday Night Live" creator Lorne Michaels and Tina Fey will be producing the movie musical while Arturo Perez Jr. directed it. "Mean Girls the Musical" will hit theatres on Jan. 12, 2024.
