Even though Julia Garner isn't currently starring in a biopic about Madonna, she still got to sing alongside the Material Girl herself.
She invited the 29-year-old actress who was supposed to play the pop queen on stage a few months after it was reported that Universal Pictures was no longer going to proceed with the film on her life, which she was supposed to write, produce, and direct.
Inspired by her 1990 song, the Emmy winner made an appearance as a special guest judge during the vogueing segment of the program on Thursday night at the Celebration Tour stop at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The Grammy winner and the former Ozark actress were seen sitting next to each other on stage, looking strikingly similar with their blonde curls styled up.
Although the singer donned a bespoke Jean Paul Gaultier bodysuit for the tour, Garner looked stunning in black pants, a lace top, and pearls, evoking the Like a Virgin era.
The two gave the backup dancers for the "Like a Prayer" singer a lighthearted grade, smiling and giving each other flawless tens. On social media, fans posted video of the event as well.
The actor from Inventing Anna looked ferocious and walked around the stage in the footage, offering her best diva-esque stage presence. The Golden Globe winner momentarily lost control while one of the dancers was doing a lap dance on Madge; she laughed and put her hand on her shoulder.
During the entertaining leg of her critically praised world tour, the superstar has invited a number of surprise visitors, Garner among them. Her visit coincides with Madonna's Wednesday night performance at Barclays, where she introduced her boyfriend Josh Popper just one day prior.
She has previously been joined by a number of well-known pals, including Julia Fox, Arca, Debi Mazar, Diplo, Donatella Versace, and FKA Twigs. Similar to Garner, Fox, 33, has long been linked to a significant part in the biopic of the "Hung Up" singer. The Uncut Gems actress reportedly expressed a strong desire to play Mazar, the celebrity's close friend and former backup dancer, during her audition.
Emmy winner Garner was the "choice to play Madonna in the biopic," a source told PEOPLE back in June 2022, confirming that the Madonna film project was in "active development."
Julia Fox, an actress from Uncut Gems, was apparently in talks to play the singer's longtime pal Debi Mazar, thus the actress might have joined her.
Mazar is an actress best known for her roles in Goodfellas, Empire Records, and Younger on TV. In October 2021, Madonna declared that she was nearly finished with the screenplay.
