John Oates and Daryl Hall's legal battle was revealed a month ago; the music duo behind the iconic '80s tracks "You Make My Dreams," "Maneater," "Private Eyes," and more have been feuding for the last couple of years.
Despite receiving a lot of success for their music, Hall & Oates are not friends--rather, they are colleagues. Oates reflected on their career during his appearance on "Behind the Velvet Rope" podcast.
"You can't ignore the fact that the Hall & Oates catalog of hits and the 50-year career will always trump almost anything that Daryl does on his own or I do on my own, which is OK because I'm very proud of that music," the singer told podcast host, David Yontef.
"I'm really proud of what Daryl and I created together. I think we made music that will stand the test of time."
This is the second time Oates has broken his silence regarding his ongoing legal battle with Hall, who filed the lawsuit against him, claiming that the latter was trying to violate a business agreement they forged.
John Oates Feels 'Hurt' About Reminiscing About Hall & Oates
Oates explained what it feels like revisiting his time with Hall over and over again, likening the experience to visiting a "great museum."
"[...] Then near the end, your feet start to hurt and you say, 'You know what? I can't wait to get out of here.' That's kind of how I feel about it," he continued.
The singer then went on to explain exactly what made him feel that way towards his stint as a musician.
"It was a lot of business demands, a lot of heavy demands... Daryl and I were at the top of the pop world. We had No. 1 record after No. 1 record. We were traveling around the world constantly. Everyone thinks that that was probably the high point of my life, but to be honest with you, it actually wasn't my favorite time."
"I have moved on. It's just a matter of living in my present," he added.
According to reports, Hall filed a restraining order against Oates a month ago preventing him from selling his stake in their joint venture, Whole Oates Enterprises LLP, to Primary Wave IP Investment Management LLC.
John Oates Open to Reconciliation with Daryl Hall?
In a different interview, Oates did not close the door on working with Hall again, if the opportunity would present itself.
"I never say never to anything," he said. "I don't know what's going to happen. I'm focused on where I am in life and leading the best life I can and moving forward."
