John Williamson announced that he will no longer be performing at the Tamworth Music Festival on Australia Day, Jan. 26, as he is recovering from surgery due to an accident that injured his hand.

"Tamworth bound," the country music singer wrote in an Instagram post with a picture of his left hand wrapped in bandages. "I won't be able to play guitar but I'll be celebrating with all my country mates instead."

According to reports, Williamson's hand was crushed by a rock sculpture at his Willoshed, his hinterland property which he occasionally opens up to guests and fans for performances.

"After a rock sculpture tried to crush my hand, I'm considering a new hobby: feather collecting," he added.

In a different post, shared via his Facebook, the "Old Man Emu" singer promised his fans he could be at Tamworth for the Golden Guitar Awards.

John Williamson Finding a New Hobby?

According to reports, aside from music, the "Under the Bridge" singer is an avid rock collector.

"Well, after 40 years of messing around with rocks at Willowshed, Springbrook, one finally got me on the left hand," he wrote about the accident.

"It ripped the skin badly and needed surgery yesterday [Tuesday, January 16] to repair muscle and nerve damage and stitch it up again."

Aside from his picture of his bandaged hand, Williamson also shared a picture of a statue copied from his likeness, and it, too, had a bandaged left hand.
