  • Black Tusk, Black Label Society Continue Tour Plans After Bassist Dies in Motorcycle Crash

    Black Tusk was set to embark on a 2015 international tour with Black Label Society and Crobot when bassist Jonathan Athon was killed in a motorcycle accident this November. After roughly a month of grieving, the band has decided to move on with the tour as planned, citing Athon as their inspiration.Here is the message from the band's Facebook page:"It's been an incredibly trying time for us over the past month and we want to thank everyone for their support. We had confirmed the European tour with Black Label Society and finished the new album before Athon's accident and Athon, specifically, had been very excited about the opportunity to tour with BLS and we feel there's no way he'd want things to end on this note. Corey Barhorst, formerly of Kylesa and currently of Niche, will be stepping in for Athon for the time being. All of us go back over 10 years and Corey seemed the natural choice to carry on for Athon."

There was one issue with the landmark tour, though: It did not include any U.S. dates.Now, Serj Tankian and Co. are rectifying the omission with a newly scheduled show for April 6 at the Los Angeles Forum that will kick off the stretch of international gigs."We said we should celebrate the fact that we're here on stage, on the radio telling you about [the Armenian genocide]," bassist Shavo Odadjian told KROQ, via radio.com. "We got to that level. Let's not mourn 100 years what has already happened. By educating, you raise awareness. By raising awareness, you grow people's minds."

    Aside from a one-off show in 2011, The Movielife has not been a working band since their split in 2003. Nearly 12 years later, they are ready to begin working on plans for a new album and subsequent tour."We, as friends and lovers of music, have found that we would all like to play shows together again as The Movielife," the group wrote on its Facebook page. "We bear no news of a new record nor are we planning a 6 month world tour. But I'll tell you one thing: The Movielife is alive."The only official event currently on the docket is a Feb. 7 show at Irving Plaza in New York City. Vinnie Caruana explained the reunion to Noisey and noted the band has not begun practicing together yet.

  • Sony's Security Breach Reveals Drake and Kevin Hart as Possible Leads in Spike Lee's New Film 'School Daze Too'

    While Sony's recent security breach has uncovered information some folks would have liked to keep private, fans will be pleased to know that in the midst Drake and Kevin Hart were revealed as possible leads for Spike Lee's new film "School Daze Too."According to "HipHopDX," an email from Lee's agent to the head of Sony Pictures Entertainment about a possible follow-up to the director's 1988 movie "School Daze" was discovered during the leak. In the email, Lee's agent, Doug Belgrad, offers up a pitch for the film with the hopes of casting Drake and Hart as the lead roles."This is a new draft that Spike has written after meetings with Drake, who will play the lead role of PE*NIS, and Kevin Hart who will play DAT N---A JIGGA," Belgrad wrote. "The budget is $ 9 million (net, after Georgia tax credits), not including historic costs, star salaries, creative producer fees. I believe in the film both as an entertainment — a college film — and as a provocative and exciting piece about the conflict of traditional values (education, college) and hip hop/star/celebrity culture. Why go to college to get a job to make money when you can make more money rapping, stripping, and creating salacious music videos even if they demean women??"Talks of a sequel for the film, which originally starred Laurence Fishburne, Giancarlo Esposito and Tisha Campbell-Martin, came about last year after Lee revealed he had completed a script for "School Daze Too."

  • Red Cloud Raps for Over 18 Hours Straight, Breaks Guinness World Record for Longest Freestyle

    A California emcee who goes by the name Red Cloud recently rapped for more than 18 hours straight and broke the Guinness World Record for longest freestyle.According to "HipHopDX," Red Cloud broke the previous record of 17 hours by rapping for a total time of 18 hours, one minute and 14 seconds. The rapper, hailing from Hawthorne, California, decided to use this opportunity to bring awareness to missing and murdered women in Canada."We put on an event every quarter at the Airliner in L.A. called Indigenous Angels," Red Cloud says during an interview with the hip-hop news outlet. "Every time we do this show, we pick a different charity to donate our proceeds to. We choose to focus on Indigenous issues. This time [my girlfriend] Crystle Lightning said, 'Lets do it for our missing sisters in Canada' ... and I thought this is perfect ... If I can honor these women and bring awareness to the epidemic in Canada using my attempt to break the world record, then it would be perfect."In the 17th hour of his freestyle, Red Cloud named each of the 1,200 indigenous women who have gone missing or been murdered in Canada since the mid-1980s.

"This embedded consciousness of, if you f--k up, they were right. A lot of the kids we hang out with now aren't from here, they just went to college here.     VH1 recently wrapped its first season of "Love & Hip Hop Hollywood," and now the franchise is going back to New York. The network recently released a "supertrailer" for Season 5 of "Love & Hip Hop" featuring Amina Buddafly, Erica Mena, Rich Dollaz and newcomer Jhonni Blaze.The four-minute clip opens with Yandy Smith welcoming home her fiance Mendeecees Harris. She later surprises him with a positive pregnancy test.With all the baby talk, things then shift to Amina Buddafly and Peter Gunz, who are expecting a baby of their own. They learn they are expecting a girl and discuss changes in their lifestyle. Peter's ex, Tara Wallace, gets thrown into the mix and Yandy counsels her on her on-again/off-again relationship with Gunz.Erica Mena and Cyn Santana return showcasing their turbulent relationship and, apparently, things are not looking up. In one scene, Santana calls Mena out for a video where she licks champagne off a stranger's body. Mena's troubles do not end there. This season, the cast welcomes Chrissy Crastanda, who makes her grand entrance by telling Mena's ex, Rich Dollaz, that the model used to be one of her escorts back in the day.Rich Dollaz still cannot seem to shake the drama with the ladies. He is bringing his new love interest, Jhonni Blaze, along this time. If the name sounds familiar, it is because she is the Houston stripper who accused Drake of sending his people to her house to threaten her life.Diamond Strawberry, daughter of legendary New York Mets outfielder Darryl Strawberry, also joins the cast this season with her boyfriend, Cisco. In the clip, Strawberry finds out Cisco fathered a 6-month-old baby with another woman during their relationship and things go sour.
