Australian hip-hop fans will get a treat as Drake will go on tour in the smallest of continents and, according to Billboard, it will be his first stop ever in the land down under. DJMag's Top 10 DJ's of The Past Five Years: Music Times Calculates for Dutch Domination (and Hardwell Doesn't Even Appear!)
Just to further up the controversy, Music Times asks not who was the best DJ in the last year, but who was was the best DJ of the last five years? Our formula wasn't too complicated...we just averaged the rankings of everyone featured on the DJMag Top 100 list in the last five years. That does cause some major issues for some contestants however. Hardwell has been no. 1 for the last two years but he didn't place during 2010, suggesting a rank of at leads 101, and thereby making his mean ranking skyrocket. The name of our game is consistency. -
Spotify and Echo Nest Indicate Dutch Listeners Strongly Prefer EDM Music Versus Other Countries...Although Not Necessarily Its Own
It's a big week for electronic dance music news. For one, the highly hyped DJMag Top 100 DJs list just hit the web this weekend. More importantly, the Amsterdam Dance Event has occurred over the last five days in the titular city. Consider it something like a SWSW exclusively for electronic music performers, with more than 2,200 acts hitting the largest city in the Netherlands for a swinging five-say stretch. Spotify and its Insights blog took the event into consideration to see just what those wily Dutch were listening to in the lead-up to the event. -
Hardwell, Van Buuren, Deadmau5 and More: Where Are Your Favorite DJ's Playing on Halloween Night?
Halloween decorations (and candy!) have been on sale in stores for a month now but it's officially October so Music Times feels comfortable discussing what you'll be doing Halloween night. Halloween is the second biggest holiday of the year for EDM (behind New Year's Eve) and you need to get on getting tickets fast if you want a spot at events helmed by the biggest DJ's in the world. -

Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Tiësto and Avicii Top Forbes Highest-Paid EDM Performers List
Music Times caught Calvin Harris at Lollapalooza during the first weekend of August and noted that it seemed the DJ had invested his earning from last year-$46 million-into his elaborate and bright stage set. If our hypothesis that the size of his set directly reflects his earnings, next year's concerts will be off the charts: Harris topped Forbes' list of the highest earning electronic musicians for the second straight year, bringing a whopping $66 million over the last 12 months. -
Toronto EDM news: The Guvernment shuts down (not a Rob Ford joke), Digital Dream Festival announces lineup
There's good news and bad news for the Toronto electronic music scene from this week. We'll get the bad news out of the way first. -
Afrojack announces new album 'Forget The World,' featuring Wiz Khalifa and Sting
It's a big week for EDM album announcements. Skrillex was the first to the punch, revealing his previously unannounced album Recess to his fans track-by-track via an app available on his website. Afrojack might not have demonstrated that sort of flair when he came forth to declare his own debut album, Forget The World, but a name as big as his doesn't necessarily need a gimmick to make the announcement a big deal. -
Electric Daisy and Mysteryland face off for New York EDM fans Memorial Day weekend
It's bad enough when you've got to figure out which music festival you're going to drop a lot of money on this summer. It's worse when two music festivals appealing to the same fan base are going down on the same day. It's the worst when both of those music festivals are going on within 100 miles of each other. Such is the case between the Electric Daisy Carnival New York and the Mysteryland Festival are both going down this Memorial Day weekend. -
Tomorrowland sells out within an hour despite legal challenges to second weekend
Even with the threat of Tomorrowland's second weekend being cancelled, the European EDM festival moved more than 360,000 tickets to both weekends, selling out in less than an hour. Granted, that's more than twice as long as it took to sell out last year's festival, but yeah. Less than an hour, 360,000 tickets. -
Afrojack, Above & Beyond and W&W doing Hakkasan residencies in Las Vegas during 2014
One of our big points when analyzing Forbes' list of the highest-paid DJ's of the previous year was noting that many of the big money-makers were affiliated with Las Vegas nightclub Hakkasan, the star player in a city filled with star players. The club, part of the MGM Grand, welcomed in even more big names for residencies during 2014.
