• UK vinyl sales exploded in 2013, Arctic Monkeys and Daft Punk at top

It was a "record" breaking year for vinyl sales in the UK. Or at least the highest it's been since 1997 when 817,000 records were sold, The Telegraph reports. Data from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and the Official Charts Company show 780,000 vinyl albums were sold. Topping the sales was Arctic Monkeys' AM and Daft Punk's Random Access Memories.
  • Eminem, Janelle Monae, Haim Join Music Times' Top 10 Albums of 2013

As with any other group conversation between the writers of Music Times, the debate between what albums to include on the site's Top 10 of the year was less than professional. There was crying (Ryan Book), yelling (Nicole Oran), and even threats of violence (Caitlin Carter). Ultimately, after countless votes and demands for recounts, ten finalists were chosen. Check out the albums that we kept in the stereo throughout 2013, along with defenses from the staff writers that loved the most.
  • Caitlin Carter's Playlist of 2013: Eminem, Paul McCartney, and Rich Homie Quan

Music Times, like so many other music publications, was looking to publish a "Best of 2013" playlist. We met to discuss what such a playlist should include, and that's where we ran into trouble. We couldn't agree. Sometimes two of us just couldn't agree on whether the performer was amazing or terrible, and even when we agreed they were amazing, we couldn't agree on what track was most representative of their work. Hence it was decided that rather than try to agree (a seemingly impossible endeavor), everyone would get their own "favorites of 2013" playlist. We won't argue that these are neccesarily the best tracks of the last year, but they're definitely songs that caught our respective attention and caused us to hit 'repeat" over and over and over again
  • Queens of the Stone Age reveal favorite albums of 2013, featuring Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Phoenix and more

Everyone's releasing their year-end lists as 2013 comes to a close. Major publications such as Rolling Stone and Spin have unveiled their choice picks for album's of the year, but who's to say they're the only ones who have their say? What about the artists themselves? Rockers Queens of the Stone Age, who released "...Like Clockwork" in June have now revealed their picks for the best 10 albums of the year.
  • NME's Best Albums List invoke Arctic Monkeys, Queens of The Stone Age and (surprise!) Kanye West

We've already spread the word on what two of the biggest names in music media, Rolling Stone and SPIN, have been listening to during 2013. But what about our friends across the pond? NME has joined in the end of the year fun, releasing its own list of the Top 50 albums of the year. The bad news is that you have to buy the issue to get the full list (looks like those Brits are trying to generate a profit, something the rest of us music media types have given up on), but they were kind enough to share their Top 3 to the general public.
  • Brit Awards Lineup to include Arctic Monkeys, Katy Perry for Feb. 19 ceremony

The 2014 Brit Awards were just announced, but already the English music award show has two huge performers under its belt. According to BBC Radio 1, American pop superstar Katy Perry will perform at the ceremony. British alt-rock musicians Arctic Monkeys will also take the stage, performing (shockingly) for the first time.
  • Arctic Monkeys announce North American tour for 2014 [SCHEDULE]

The Arctic Monkeys are heading stateside again starting in December and have added dates for January and February 2014 in support of their most recent album AM. The North American stretch will include stops in Miami, Charlotte and Minneapolis with their biggest show at New York’s Madison Square Gardens. Indie-rock five piece, Deerhunter, will join them on their New York and Boston dates.
  • Arctic Monkeys, David Bowie up for Mercury Prize album of the year

If you haven't heard of the Mercury Prize, it may be because it's a UK thing -- the award has go to an album from Britain or Ireland. But before you write it off as too narrow of a category, think of the acts from these regions today and in the past who have made a lasting mark on the world of music. Some would argue the shortlist of nominees does not even cover all the best candidates, and there are 12, from the Arctic Monkeys to David Bowie.
  • Lou Reed Tributes: Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire, Twin Shadow, Pearl Jam, My Morning Jacket and more cover the late legend's classics

The influence that Lou Reed had on alternative music is undeniable. After his untimely death on Sunday, many fans and artists took to social media to express their sadness and respect for the 71-year-old legend. In the days since his passing, bands including the Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire, Twin Shadow, Pearl Jam, My Morning Jacket, The Black Crowes, Phish, Gov't Mule and more have performed covers of Lou Reed's work.
