• Frankie Knuckles 'House Masters' Compilation: CD to Benefit Elton John AIDS Foundation, Frankie Knuckles Fund

    A posthumous CD compilation crafted by the godfather of house music, Frankie Knuckles, is being released by Defected Records with all proceeds of the sales going to the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Frankie Knuckles Fund. The 'House Masters' compilation was originally started in February 2014, shortly before the Chicago DJ died. The project, which includes handpicked singles and remixes from Knuckles's career, was sidelined when the "Whistle Song" DJ died March 31, 2014.

    There seems to be a resurgence in independent record stores nowadays as chain retailers continue to fold. Tower Records was one of the biggest music chains around from 1960 to 2000, and many famous musicians have an attachment to the store. Actor Colin Hanks began working on a documentary about Tower Records in 2008, two years after it declared bankruptcy. The documentary 'All Things Must Pass' debuted at South by Southwest this week. The director talked about the film, which took so long to make because of funding issues, prior to a screening. He mentioned two big music names -- Elton John and Dave Grohl -- as supporters of the record store, 'Billboard' noted. Slash also appeared in the film.

    Bonnaroo 2015 is only six months away, and while the lineup is usually announced in February, organizers will share some of the performers next week. The Bonnaroo Lineup Announcement Megathon will take place Jan. 13 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Fans will be able to call a phone number to receive updates, and then they can share the information on social media using the hashtag #Bonnaroo, "Consequence of Sound" notes.If you want to find out who will be at The Farm in June, call 1-844-ROO-2015 during the BLAM. Organizers will also share a preview of Skrillex's documentary of the festival's Superjam tradition.
