There has been so much attention placed on the Brian Williams scandal over at NBC News that we often forget that much of the network's house is struggling in the ratings. The Today show dominated the morning show battle for a long time, but it has fallen to ABC in recent years and the struggle to climb back on top has yet to be successful. Hoda Kotb sat in for normal newsreader, Natalie Morales last week and the ratings were actually much better than usual. This has led to intense speculation that NBC News is going to push Morales out of her Today show spot in favor of Kotb and not everyone is happy about it. -
ABC Needs Raven-Symone to Help Save 'The View'
It's just about that time of year for networks to march out their brightest and most profitable stars in the hopes of grabbing some fantastic advertising for next season. At these upfronts, cast members gather to help promote the fall television season and it's often when we first catch a glimpse of some of the stars that will hopefully be on the rise in the coming months. ABC knows that its' daily chatfest, The View is sinking like the Titanic and that means they are desperate to bring someone in that will not only steady the ratings, but also bring a new audience in as well. Raven-Symone recently completed a few weeks sitting in as a guest-host and apparently the network has decided that they really need to get her to sign on the doted line for next season. -
'Days of Our Lives' Is at Risk for Cancellation as Ratings Sink
'Days of Our Lives' may be getting ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary, but it is also starting to look like it really may be its last. Back in January 2014, the daytime series was renewed for two more years as its ratings were healthy and the show was reeling in viewers. But now, just several months later, everything seems to have changed. According to Soap Opera Network, the ratings keep sinking, putting 'Days' at risk for cancellation. -
'Days of Our Lives' Has Hired New Writers to Save It From Cancellation Later This Year
Fans of "Days of Our Lives" have been really concerned lately because the recent storylines have not been working and the proof has been in the dismal ratings. The most vocal fans have been rallying for change, as they have watched old favorite characters get phased out in favor of newer ones. Apparently the powers-that-be have listened and agreed because a swift change has been made in the soap's head writers. New head writers have been hired to save the soap from cancellation later this year. -
Rosie O'Donnell Left 'The View' as Producers Were About to Fire Whoopi Goldberg
Rosie O'Donnell's departure over at "The View" could not possibly have come at a better time -- for Whoopi Goldberg. The two have clashed almost daily ever since O'Donnell rejoined the roundtable discussion last September, leaving the network scrambling to ease on-camera tensions in the hopes that the sinking ratings would then somehow stabilize. After mulling over possibilities, ABC producers had apparently decided to fire Goldberg, but then O'Donnell quit first. -
ABC News is Happy to See Rosie O'Donnell Leave 'The View', Blames Her for Dismal Ratings
We recently told you guys that Rosie O'Donnell has decided to pull the plug on her second stint as a co-host on ABC's The View just a few short months after joining the daily chatfest. She initially chalked up her departure to being needed at home to care for her kids after splitting with her wife, Michelle Rounds, but anyone that has caught the show recently knows that O'Donnell has been feuding with Whoopi Goldberg. They agree on virtually nothing and have never found a way to be okay with each other while holding opposing opinions, so the result is an enormous amount of strain on the entire production. -
Rosie O'Donnell Quits 'The View' and Her Marriage All at Once!
Rosie O'Donnell is the first one to jump from that sinking ship that is ABC's The View. While things between her and Whoopi Goldberg have gone from cordial to screaming matches backstage in just a few short months, apparently her crumbling home life also directly played a part in O'Donnell's decision to leave the show. It has been confirmed that she split from Michelle Rounds, her wife of three years, last November and she is choosing to put her kids first right now. -
ABC May Kill Off Hostility-Plagued 'The View' in Favor of Adding Another Hour to 'GMA'
"The View's" first season without veteran reporter Barbara Walters may end up being its last on the air if something does not radically change — fast. Pairing Whoopi Goldberg with Rosie O'Donnell has once again proven to be a fiasco onscreen that turns viscous backstage. Nicolle Wallace and Rosie Perez seem unable to handle the stress and infighting caused by the other two and the ratings are in the toilet. At first ABC was looking ahead to next season and trying to figure out who it could bring in to help turn the show around, but now it is instead contemplating putting "The View" out of its misery after Season 18 ends. According to a report by "The Daily Mail," ABC may instead opt to replace the show with an extended hour of "Good Morning America," which already gets great ratings."The brass at ABC feels like they've tried to do everything possible to breathe new life into this show and are debating about replacing it with an additional hour of the well-rated 'Good Morning America.' ABC feels it's exhausted their options with 'The View' and now it's time to expand the existing franchise, 'GMA.' They feel that since 'GMA' is already beating NBC's 'Today' during the first two hours of the broadcast, why not extend the morning broadcast?" says a source close to the network. -
A Rebooted 'America's Best Dance Crew' Will Return More Than 2 Years After Being Canceled by MTV
Remember when prime time television was loaded with dance competitions? Some thought there was not enough room for "Dancing with the Stars," "So You Think You Can Dance" and also "America's Best Dance Crew," so the latter was canceled more than two years ago. Apparently, after giving the show a breather, MTV had second thoughts and has agreed to reboot Randy Jackson's show after that brief hiatus. "ABDC," as it is affectionately known, will be returning this summer according to a press release MTV put out yesterday, Jan. 10."It's the best of the best as 'America's Best Dance Crew' returns this summer with six new episodes featuring dance crews from previous seasons of the hit competition series. Prepare for battles showcasing more amazing styles and innovative choreography as these crews keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Fresh talent and an all-new group of judges fill out what will be an electrifying season."'ABDC' is executive produced by Randy Jackson, Rob Lee (Bayonne Entertainment) and Howard and Karen Schwartz (Hip Hop International). Brooke Karzen, Dan Sacks and Louise Wu are the executives overseeing the project for Warner Horizon Television ('The Bachelor,' 'The Bachelorette,' 'The Voice'). Lauren Dolgen, Kristina Edwards, Michelle Klepper and Hannah Uszak are the executives in charge for MTV, " says the official statement. -
Bravo Brings Back 'Manzo'd With Children' Adding Fuel to the Notion That 'RHONJ' is Finished
After leaving "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" a while back, Caroline Manzo was offered her own Bravo spin off show, "Manzo'd With Children," which actually did pretty well with the ratings. Well enough for the powers-that-be to decide to bring it back for a second season. For a while Manzo's name was being mentioned as a possible way of trying to save RHONJ. Bringing her back while Teresa Giudice spends the next year in the clink sounded like a possibility but focus groups just aren't having it. -
Teresa Giudice's Prison Stint Has Ended Bravo's 'RHONJ'
It looks like it really is the end of the road for "The Real Housewives of New Jersey." While the ladies still connected to the show would say they can continue without Teresa Giudice, Bravo executives apparently think otherwise. Even with her, the ratings for this past season were so low that they wisely brought in former cast members like Jacqueline Laurita to lure old fans back, and it worked. But without Giudice in the mix, according to the results from several focus groups that have been evaluated, the show is kind of doomed.According to a report by Radar Online, the network already knows that it is time to pull the plug."At this point, 'The Real Housewives of New Jersey' is essentially done. Bravo has considered all of their options and they don't feel like there is really a show without Teresa. Whether the other women want to admit it or not, she is the star of the franchise. The show simply wouldn't be the same without her," says the source. -
Fox News Ranked the Top Cable News Network for Thirteenth Year in a Row
The end of the year means the television networks take a look back on the previous 12 months and analyze those numbers. Apparently, when it comes to news, Fox News not only crushed its competition, but this is actually the 13th year in a row that it is America's top cable news network.According to a report by Deadline, Fox News is doing great among all the cable networks as well.As 2014 ends, FNC celebrates its 13th consecutive year as the most-watched cable news network, though it, too, has had its disappointments. Overall, FNC is down 4 percent in total viewers — 1.05 million — the same percent in news demo viewers, though it finished laps ahead of its competition in both metrics, Deadline said.FNC rings out the year ranked No. 4 among ad-supported, basic-cable networks in overall primetime audiences, behind ESPN, USA Network and TNT. It also ranks No. 4 in total. CNN and MSNBC are way back in the 20s and 30s, said Deadline.
