    Last night a special hip-hop moment happened. One of the very best to ever pick up a mic, Nas appeared on stage with Run The Jewels -- one of the hottest up-and-coming duos in hip-hop right now. Run The Jewels were scheduled to perform as the headliner at 50 Kent, the main outdoor venue at the Northside Festival in Brooklyn, and they had a very special trick up their sleeves. The Illmatic rapper showed up as a surprise guest to perform his 'God's Son' track "Made You Look" at the end of RTJ's set and your author was on hand to capture the action on video.

New York City has countless music events happening every weekend, notably during the summer, and in three weeks, Northside Festival will be taking over Brooklyn with a combination of speakers, films and music.     In honor of this year's Record Store Day, increasingly popular hip-hop duo Run The Jewels released a new 12" containing four tracks. Three of them "Pew Pew Pew," "Love Again" (taken from Run The Jewels 2) and "Blockbuster Night Pt. 2" (a bonus tune from Run The Jewels 2) have already been released, but the first song "Bust No Moves" is unreleased.

    Run the Jewels have shared the music video for the powerful 'Run the Jewels 2' track "Close Your Eyes." The video is just as evocative, if not so, as the song that takes a strong stance against the current injustices facing society, like police brutality. Director AG Rojas crafts a simple, no-frills video, yet with an incredibly powerful message as two men -- a young black man played by Keith Stanfield (Jimmie Lee Jackson in 'Selma') and a white police officer played by Shea Whigham (Eli in 'Boardwalk Empire') and -- grapple with each other all day and all night on a deserted street without one side ever gaining an advantage or winning and eventually come to rest right next to each other. Symbolism is rife throughout the video as the two men represent the larger communities they come from and the seemingly never-ending battle between them.
