Natalie Morales Says 'Today' Staffers Not Distracted by Brian Williams Scandal
Natalie Morales has been a regular fixture for NBC's Today show for nearly a decade now and while the network has been in serious turmoil in recent months, she insists that the morning show cast is all good. While Today has struggled in the number two morning news program position for awhile now, the pressure that once existed is nothing like what employees of NBC Nightly News are now feeling. Ever since Brian Williams was suspended from the program for lying on camera about his experiences in the field, it made any of the issues behind-the-scenes at Today look quite small comparatively. -
Is Natalie Morales Out at NBC's 'Today'?
There has been so much attention placed on the Brian Williams scandal over at NBC News that we often forget that much of the network's house is struggling in the ratings. The Today show dominated the morning show battle for a long time, but it has fallen to ABC in recent years and the struggle to climb back on top has yet to be successful. Hoda Kotb sat in for normal newsreader, Natalie Morales last week and the ratings were actually much better than usual. This has led to intense speculation that NBC News is going to push Morales out of her Today show spot in favor of Kotb and not everyone is happy about it. -
Amy Adams Interviewed on Red Carpet by Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie After 'Today' Canceled Her Recent Appearance
A few weeks ago, Amy Adams made news because her scheduled interview with "The Today Show" was abruptly canceled on the spot as the actress waited in the green room. She was scheduled to promote her latest film, "Big Eyes," on the morning show, and when she did not want to discuss the Sony hacking scandal, then producers informed her that her interview was not going to happen after all. Imagine how awkward it must have been on the red carpet of the Golden Globe Awards when Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer had to interview Adams!Whatever bad blood may have existed was not present when the three chatted. In fact, it all felt friendly, leading us to think that amends must have been made behind the scenes after the scandal grabbed headlines. Harvey Weinstein, the producer of "Big Eyes," was pushing hard for the network to apologize to Adams, and it looks like it must have happened.NBC had wanted the actress to comment on the leaked Sony emails, the one in particular that divulged that she and Jennifer Lawrence had earned significantly less than their male co-stars in "American Hustle." Adams did not want to be part of that dialogue and also mentioned that Bradley Cooper had just done an interview with "Today" and was not asked about Sony, so she felt that it should be fine for her not to be grilled as well. Adams later admitted that she really did not understand what had happened or why on earth her interview had been canceled. -
NBC Signs Brian Williams to New, Long-Term Deal to Continue Anchoring 'Nightly News'
Head honchos at NBC News are breathing a bit easier after officially signing NBC's "Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams to a new, multi-year contract that is sure to keep him around the halls of 30 Rock for a long time to come. Williams first took over the anchor seat from the legendary Tom Brokaw in 2004 and has pretty much dominated the evening news race from Day 1. In recent months ABC's David Muir has begun to challenge him in the ratings race, but Williams seems to be taking the competition in stride.NBC News President Deborah Turness announced Williams's new deal in a memo, which read, "Brian is one of the most trusted journalists of our time. He has led this organization through every major news event for the last decade, from Hurricane Katrina in his first year in the anchor chair to his exclusive interview with Edward Snowden this year, through elections, wars, natural disasters, tragedies and triumphs. In all of those cases he's taken 'Nightly News's' viewers to the heart of the stories that matter most in a way that's uniquely his." -
ABC News Anchor David Muir Is Furious That First Darren Wilson Exclusive Interview Went to George Stephanopoulos Instead of Him
We told you a few weeks ago that there was a serious fight between the networks to score the first exclusive interview with Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson. CNN's Don Lemon and Anderson Cooper as well as NBC's Matt Lauer all met with Wilson before he finally decided to sit down and talk on the record with ABC's George Stephanopoulos. As it turns out, perhaps the person most bent out of shape over Wilson's choice is "ABC World News Tonight" anchor David Muir.Apparently Muir believes that as the network's evening anchor, he should be the one who is in the running for the serious "gets," not just Stephanopoulos. Sources close to Muir dished on the fact that he is furious exclusively to Page Six. -
Jamie Horowitz Proposed a Plan to Totally Clean House at NBC's 'Today' Before Being Ousted Last Week
The internal politics and constant discord behind the scenes at NBC's "Today" have become almost as big of a story as anything reported on camera. NBC has spent the last two years scrambling to try and reclaim its former top spot in the morning ratings war. In September, Jamie Horowitz started to observe Today's daily show so that by December new changes could be implemented at his request. A few weeks ago, he gave a five-hour presentation to NBC News head Deborah Furness, and in the end Horowitz was out of a job instead of anyone else.News leaked out recently that Natalie Morales and Willie Geist had been fired by NBC, and while those reports were later discredited, that is exactly part of what Horowitz had in mind. He also wanted Matt Lauer's co-host, Savannah Guthrie, let go to make room for Hoda Kotb instead, and if you are a fan of Al Roker, then you would have been out of luck because Horowitz would have fired him as well. -
NBC's 'Today' in Turmoil as Rumors Circulate That Natalie Morales and Willie Geist Have Already Been Fired: Savannah Guthrie Could Be Next
The real story of what is going on behind the scenes at NBC's "Today" seems to depend on who you talk to, but one thing is for sure: It is not pretty. On Monday night, Nov. 17, the network confirmed that Jamie Horowitz, who was brought in less than three months ago as the morning show's general manager, had been fired. Horowitz was originally hired to make changes that would help Today climb back to the top of the ratings, but he was met with hostility from nearly everyone when he tried to implement changes.According to a report by Page Six, Matt Lauer found out that Horowitz was gearing up to get rid of Natalie Morales, Willie Geist and even his co-host Savannah Guthrie. Lauer then went to NBC's top brass in protest and had Horowitz fired, proving he really is ultimately in charge of major Today decisions. -
Will Pippa Middleton Become the Newest 'Today Show' Correspondent?
Apparently, Pippa Middleton made such an impression on NBC after sitting for an interview last summer that the network has been courting her for a job. Kate Middleton's younger sister taped an interview with Matt Lauer for "The Today Show" that aired in June and the ratings were spectacular. The numbers confirmed what the network had already known: Americans love royals, even if they are only a married-in extension of the monarchy. Kate's marriage to Prince William has caused enormous interest in Pippa and NBC is hopeful that they will be able to add her as a new correspondent to Today.According to a new report by Page Six, Pippa has been working on a test piece in Utah and, if all goes well, then it will sign her to do special reports on subjects like health and fitness. -
After Latest Scandal, Is Matt Lauer the Most Disliked News Anchor in the US?
Every few years it seems Matt Lauer gets hit with some really harsh criticism as well as questions regarding his true character. The "Today" show anchor was at one point a beloved member of America's top morning news team, but his personal currency has dropped in recent years. Just this past week details in his marriage became public knowledge and once again it is making the newsman look bad. Back in 2006, Lauer's wife Annette Roque filed for divorce and claimed in the official documents to be suffering "cruel and inhumane" treatment at the hands of her husband. The divorce petition was unsealed this week, leaving Lauer wide open for public scrutiny again. Does this scandal make him the most disliked anchor in the U.S.? -
New Mom Savannah Guthrie Returns To 'Today Show' Anchor Seat On Nov. 3
NBC News has been having a rough week, especially after confirmation came that chief medical correspondent, Dr. Nancy Snyderman and her crew had violated a voluntary quarantine after returning from Liberia. One of the cameramen in her group is currently being treated in a Nebraska hospital for the Ebola Virus and after agreeing to stay out of public places for 21 days, Snyderman and a few others were spotted making a food run in spite of potentially carrying the deadly virus. Her blame-passing apology hasn't helped the network either, leaving them in dire need of good news or at least something positive. Luckily, it has been confirmed that Savannah Guthrie will be returning to her Today Show anchor seat on Nov. 3. -
