• Tool's Danny Carey To Play Drums With Primus On Tour

Though Primus' next album Primus & The Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble is the band's first with drummer Tim 'Herb' Alexander since 1995, his recent heart troubles will force him to sit out some early dates on the band's upcoming tour. To replace him, Primus has selected Tool's Danny Carey, who will briefly fill in for Alexander in September, including performances at both Riot Fests in Chicago and Denver.
  • Tool New Album Release Date Delay Explained in New Interview with 'Rolling Stone': Lawsuit Holding 'Schism' Band Up

Rock band Tool is beloved by fans, critically acclaimed and avid players on the touring market... but the "Schism" band hasn't released a new album in eight years; it's last effort 10,000 Days was released on May 2, 2006. Rumors have swirled about tentative release dates, new singles and more for years now but finally the band is coming clean about its oft-delayed fifth studio effort.
  • Music Times celebrates Pi Day with the mathematical music of Tool

Happy Pi Day! March 14 is the one day of the year where people pretend to care about Pi, perhaps the most essential number in geometry, and possibly existence in general (the gravitational constant is a big deal too). Music has a tendency to be mathematic, as much as we'd like to ignore it. One group puts special emphasis on the science behind its music more than most: Tool. In order to honor both the band and Pi (we guess), we've assembled a brief primer on math 'n' the music of Tool.
  • Adam Jones says new Tool album is done. Or that's what an anonymous source told us.

Tool is not a band to release an album every year, or every two years. The group has set a new standard for delay between new records, as it hasn't created anything since 2006's 10,000 Days. There hasn't been a breakup, as the group tours on occasion. Adam Jones, the band's guitarist and leader (realistically), first declared new music was on the way during 2011. And fans have been waiting since then. But the band has set out on a new tour, and Jones was reportedly overheard telling a fan that the new album was done.
  • Maynard James Keenan's birthday party: Puscifer, A Perfect Circle and Failure to play L.A. in May

Maynard James Keenan has made an announcement and yes-it will be a concert compiling performances from bands he's been involved with but no-Tool will not be involved. So as grumbly as we are about that last aspect, it still sounds like a pretty sweet gig. We shouldn't complain about shows involving both A Perfect Circle and Puscifer (plus Failure). The show will go down at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on May 10 (his real birthday is April 17). Tickets will go on sale Friday, although prices haven't been released as of yet.

If you haven’t heard by now, the government is shutting down starting today — the first time in 17 years. To lighten the mood, Music Times has created a playlist of songs about the government shutdown.
