What Happened to Fetty Wap?

According to an article published by People magazine in 2023, the rapper, whose real name is Willie Maxwell, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances. Ultimately, he was sentenced to six years in prison.

Amid his sentencing, the "Trap Queen" hitmaker apologized to the judge who presided over his case, saying, "Me being selfish in my pride put me in this position today."

Throughout his trial, his legal team argued with the court that he had no choice but to sell drugs during the pandemic due to his financial problems.

Prosecutors later argued to give the rapper a longer sentence in a letter to the judge as they alleged that he used his popularity on younger people who admire him to "glamorize the drug trade."

"The fact that we arrested a chart-topping rap artist and a corrections officer as part of the conspiracy illustrates just how vile the drug trade has become," FBI assistant director-in-charge Michael Driscoll said at the time.

He was first arrested in October 2021 after facing allegations that he got more than 100 kilograms of cocaine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl. He was accused of distributing the substances in New Jersey and Long Island.
