Fetty Wap was sentenced to six years in jail after being charged with conspiracy drug charges, which dates back to October 2021.
According to reports, the "Trap Queen" rapper pled guilty to the charges and admitted to taking part in a large-scale, cross-country trafficking scheme of cocaine.
The 31-year-old rapper seemed to be pretty apologetic for his choices and reflects on how they led him behind bars, "Me being selfish in my pride put me in this position today."
Apparently, his legal camp suggested that he might have turned to sell drugs because Fetty Wap fell on hard times during the pandemic lockdown, which began in March 2020.
Conspiracy Drug Charges
According to reports, the rapper was initially arrested in October 2021 along with five other individuals, who eventually became his co-defendants.
They were conspiring to smuggle more than 100kg of heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine.
During the sentencing hearing, Fetty Wapp had this to say about his actions: "I hurt my community, people who look up to me. My family and myself. I am truly sorry for any pain I caused."
On the other hand, his attorney, Elizabeth Macedonio, had this to say about Fetty Wap's sentence: "This is a sad day. This is a kid from Paterson, New Jersey who made it out."
However, the prosecution emphasized that the sentence and charge did not have anything to do with his career as a rapper.
"The defendant did actually sell drugs," said Christopher Caffarone. "The defendant did actually sell cocaine."
Even Judge Joanna Seybert agrees and left Fetty Wap with some words of wisdom, "You've got a lot going for you. See if you can put it together."
Other Offenses
According to The Guardian, this is not Fetty Wap's first brush with the law; there were two or even three other instances when he was arrested by law enforcement.
In 2017, he was charged with driving under the influence after he was found racing along the highways in New York City; and in 2019, he was arrested for allegedly assaulting several employees at a Las Vegas casino.
In 2021, he allegedly threatened to kill a man during a FaceTime call and help up a firearm, which both violated the terms of his pre-trial release.
Perhaps the rapper's time behind bars will finally give him the time to reflect on his past actions and come out a better citizen and maybe even inspire him to make new music.
