SOPHIE's cause of death is revisited ahead of the release of her posthumous album.
The Grammy-winning producer, whose real name was Sophie Xeon, will be heard again as reports have announced the arrival of her new album on September 24. It will be the first material from the late musician since her death.
According to Billboard, the self-titled project features a collaboration with BC Kingdom and Kim Petras. It will reportedly serve as the follow-up to her debut LP, The Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides, which was released in 2018.
The LP's lead single, "Reason Why," was released on Monday, June 24.
Following the announcement, her fans revisited her final moments and looked back at the cause of her death.
SOPHIE died on January 30, 2021, at the age of 34. Several news outlets, including BBC, revealed that the producer passed away in Athens, Greece, after falling from an apartment balcony while enjoying the full moon.
A spokesperson for the Athens police disclosed that the artist slipped and fell during the incident.
No foul play was involved in SOPHIE's death.
"Tragically our beautiful SOPHIE passed away this morning after a terrible accident," said a statement for the artist's European label Transgressive. "True to her spirituality she had climbed up to watch the full moon and accidentally slipped and fell. She will always be here with us. The family thank everyone for their love and support and request privacy at this devastating time."
More tributes also poured in from her fans and across the LGBTQ community, paying tribute to SOPHIE, who was transgender.
Sam Smith tweeted, "The world has lost an angel. A true visionary and icon of our generation. Your light will continue to inspire so many for generations to come."
"Our community has lost an icon, a pioneer and a visionary bright light," model and activist Munroe Bergdorf added.
In 2018, SOPHIE spoke with Paper Magazine and discussed her gender identity.
"Transness is taking control to bring your body more in line with your soul and spirit so the two aren't fighting against each other and struggling to survive ... It means you're not a mother or a father - you're an individual who's looking at the world and feeling the world," the late artist continued.
