Macy Gray revealed the uncanny first meeting encounter she had with pop star Britney Spears.

In a conversation on the Australian talk show The Project, Gray confessed that she listens to Spears' Blackout to pump herself up before performing on a show.

When asked if she had a chance to meet Spears in the past, Gray shared how her first encounter with the "Toxic" singer had gone.

"We were in the same studio once, and she skateboarded into my session. Literally," Gray shared. "She was in the room down the hall, and we looked up and all of a sudden she was skating into our room. And then we talked for a little bit and we didn't really, like, hit it off."

Gray admitted that the encounter took an awkward turn compared to what she had initially anticipated.

"I'm still a groupie to this day. I'm sitting there with Britney Spears, you know, and I kinda stuttered," Gray admitted. "I didn't know what to say. And she kinda rolled her eyes. Whatever I said, she was kind of annoyed by it and she left."

According to Gray, Spears rolled her eyes and skated off the studio.

However, the awkward encounter did not stop Gray from idolizing the singer. For her, Blackout is still the "best album ever," and "Radar" is her favorite song from the record.

Gray also added that listening to Spears' album was similar to drinking coffee, giving her that "let's go" energy that she needed before performing.

Released in 2007, Blackout became the first album of Spears that did not debut atop the Billboard 200 albums chart. Despite this, the album is still a commercial and critical success.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) have certified the album double platinum and platinum, respectively.

The album was also hailed the Best Album at the 2008 Alfa Awards, the International Album of the Year at the 2008 NRJ Music Awards, and the Best Album at the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards.

"Blackout is an avant-disco concept album about getting famous, not giving a fuck, getting divorced, not giving a fuck, getting publicly mocked and despised and humiliated. It's an album about dancing on tables in a cloud of glitter and Cheeto dust. But mostly it's an album about not giving a fuck, which is why it sounds perfect for grim times like these," Rolling Stone said in a 10th-anniversary review of the record.
