It's been a big day for Young Money. Last night Drake dropped his surprise mixtape, If You're Reading This It's Too Late, and now it looks like Lil Wayne might be dropping that Free Weezy Album he announced earlier this month.
When he initially made the announcement, Weezy said the project would be "coming soon" but didn't offer up many other details. Earlier today, the cover art surfaced online, and reports are coming in that the project will drop tonight on iTunes and Google Play. It is unclear if it will be a free mixtape or a mixtape-album a la Drake.
At 1:23 p.m. Wayne posted a message on Twitter saying, "Hit sent. #FWA," so it's possible these reports are true.
However, Mack Maine is now saying that the Free Weezy Album won't be dropping today.
"Take that cover down and stop lying to the people ...@LilTunechi not dropping anything tonight...enjoy @drake mixtape....we workin," he wrote on Twitter.
The Free Weezy Album follows up Lil Wayne's Sorry 4 The Wait 2, which he released to fans because of the hold up on his Carter V album. Tunechi is currently wrapped up in a legal battle with Cash Money Records because Birdman refuses to let him out of his contract. He filed a $51 million lawsuit against the label last month.
It's unclear whether both Drake and Lil Wayne are dropping these mixtape-albums to fulfill their contractual obligations with the label so they can officially jump ship or if they will drop their highly anticipated studio albums on the label.
Looks like we'll all have to wait until tonight to see if Free Weezy hits the streets. But for now you can get your Young Money fill with Drake's tape.
