Though the movie adaptation of Insurgent is due to be released later this month, the official soundtrack isn't due out until September. Despite the delayed release schedule, today (March 2), fans of the movie/book series, M83 and HAIM were in for a treat. The first taste of the soundtrack dropped today, teaming up the two indie rock groups in with "Holes in the Sky."
According to HAIM, the team up of M83 and HAIM came out of mutual musical adoration.
"We've been fans of Anthony Gonzalez and M83 for a long, long time so when he reached out to have us sing on the song we were ecstatic," HAIM said to MTV News in a statement. "We had the best time in the studio with him, it all happened so fast and was so easy and natural. We are so excited to be a part of this movie."
And the result is just what fans could come to expect from Insurgent, HAIM and M83. The cinematic song is filled with lush strings, as the HAIM ladies take on vocal duties, giving the song dramatic and feminine vibes. There's a slow build, as HAIM asks for "someone to tell me this is real." Eventually, the cinematic nature of the song ebbs as a piano kicks in, giving the song more poppy detailing.
Though as they ask for "someone to pull me from the dark," it's clear that this is a movie anthem first and foremost, and an effective one at that.

"Holes in the Sky" is the first taste of the Insurgent film soundtrack. Details surrounding the album are scarce, but if the first movie Divergent's soundtrack was any indication, the lineup for this OST will be stacked. In addition to M83, Ellie Goulding, Zedd, Pretty Lights and Skrillex all made appearances.
